SEO or Branding with domain

I've been doing a bunch of keyword/competition research and I have come up with a couple long tail 5 and 7 keyword phrases for my new venture. I'm doing an Amazon affiliate store. With the software I have the store will "Stock" any of Amazons products without having the usual link directly to Amazon. The shopper will not be taken to Amazon until they check out.

My question is, should I go with a very long domain name that is the keyword phrase, or should I come up with a "Catchy" domain name that will brand the site in the broader category. The store will have about 50 products to start but the key phrase will be very focused on a buy keyword for 1 specific product.

An example wold be "Fenwick 15XT Bait Casting Rod" the domain would be www.fenwick15XTbaitcastingrod.com or shoud I do something like; Joe's Pro Fishing www.joesprofishing.com or even JPF Tackle, www.jpftackle.com

As we know the first choice would be much better for SEO but harder to brand the entire site/store. The store will have not only that particular product but many others in the "Fishing Equipment" niche. BTW the links above are just for example and don't really exist.

Wow that sounds like great software to be able to bring it right up to the Amazon checkout. Is it your own software?

Here is what I would do. I'd brand the online store with a catchy but tasteful and fitting name with a logo as people trust brands. I know for myself if I went to a website that was named with that long product name only (no brand name or logo) I'd almost think it might be a scammer phishing for my cc number or something. Call me paranoid maybe I don't know you be the judge.

Now that said. Let's face it domain names are under $10 a year to reserve and if you do volume you can get it down to $6 each. So reserve 50 or 100 of your top product names and you'll have the best of both worlds.

Had I come across a product I was looking for and clicked on the product specific key word domain let's call it I would have no problem as long as it lead me to the branded name and logo online store. Otherwise it's just not not credible. Nor is is re-salable really and that is what you should always be thinking when building a business. As far as I understand it anyway.

    Hope that helps.

Branding takes longer and more effort than most people realize.

If your choices are limited to branding the name or SEO, you will be more successful with SEO. (IMHO)

I agree with jordorules to use both like "joesfishingtackleshop"

I have found that the best way to sell Amazon products is to use content that provides free info on their problem and then offer a better solution through your link to the Amazon product.

Give a bonus item (more info like a cleaning checklist, blender recipes...) if they buy through your link.

    Hope that helps.

I have seen long-tail bring converting traffic with little or no, after the fact, effort. That said it's still a content driven world. So if you can get a short, high DA/PA, aged domain you can get traffic for pretty much any content you put on the site so long is it is largely unique, brings value to the user and the site gets updated on some regular interval.

I'll cut straight to the point to save you time.

Using EMD (Exact Match Domain) gives little to no benefit in terms of SEO, but will potentially reduce trust from your visitors and limits any potential growth of the site due to branding issues.

Using a brand name, something catchy and trust inspiring, will have a positive impact on your conversion rate and allows you to grow the site if it becomes more successful than you planned.

This is all you need to know on this matter.

Nuff said, branding it is. Thank you, I've make so many mistakes in the past with IM. The more serious I get about it, the more I'm starting to realize I have to start thing like a customer.

    Branding EVERY time.

When was the last time you went to "42inchplasmansonytvKDL42W829BBU.com" to buy a TV? That looks ridiculous, doesn't it?

Search engines don't buy anything from you, but the visitors do, so think about them first, then all the keywords/SEO malarkey.

You can always get more targeted traffic if you have none. You can't always get more branding if you have none.

    Branding of course with SEO.
Besides, SEO is not anymore an option now, it is still necessary for your online business.

For an Amazon I am very inclined to say SEO domain

If it was your own personal blog that you wanted to exhibit personal touches with ..then yeah Brand it.

But NOT Amazon. These people want a specific product and the better you can convey that in your Domain the better off you will be, and that includes in search engines

It really depends on your goal. I wouldn't focus entirely on SEO. Lots of people make that mistake and end up getting burned. I would go for a brand for the long run.

    Hi,
In my opinion, you should work on a catchy domain name. Like someone else said, buyers don't like to buy from stores with really long and doubtous domain names. When my friend was suffering from a similar dilemma, a branding agency, Brand Harvest, helped him come up with a unique brand name. So come up with a catchy domain name and then work on On-page and Off page SEO for your site. Surely you'll benefit from this exercise.

I have some doubts on the branding, because it really takes a lot of time in the branding than the SEO so If I have to choose I would like to go for the SEO. because it's guaranteed that I will get results very easily.
