What exactly are press releases?

I already tried searching the forum, and i have a general idea, but i really need someone to lay it out for me. Someone suggested them in order to promote my site, and i have no idea how.

Press releases are basically news related articles about your company or maybe a new product or service. Back a few years ago, there were many places where you could publish so called "press releases" and they did help with SEO. The search engines have caught on though.

Legitimate and genuine press releases may help you get some traffic and they may still help with SEO. Doing press releases just for SEO purposes is probably going to be pretty fruitless though. My thoughts on it anyways.

Huh, are you for real. Why can't you simply Google it . . . or is that too complicated?

Why did that "someone" suggest that?

Did you tell that person that you just finished launching the hottest business idea or website to hit the internet since its inception, or did you just setup your first word press site still in its "hello world" stage?

If it's the latter, then don't waste your time on news releases just yet.

Especially if you are only setting up a basic blog talking about internet marketing and linking to affiliate products. Because "that" is definitely not newsworthy.

If you however have an original story to tell, one that people will care about,
then by all means send out a press release.

Depending on your specific niche, there are different places to go for this.

It's pretty much as Arnold said.

For 99.99% of people on this site, a Press Release is a complete waste of time, effort and money. There are better things you could be doing.

However, for the off chance that you are actually that 0.01%, a quick Google gave me this, which might help you.

But once again, you're probably part of the 99.99% (like me) who it's not worth it for.
