How to build a forum?

Hello Warriors,
I have a new businessidea. I want to build a forum like this. There are 50-200 people waiting for my forum. Then I want to place ads. How I have to do this. Do you know where I can find the scripts?

vBulletin is the best forum script.

Amongst the free ones, SMF is the best.

I recently used vbulletin for my own forum. It's user-friendly and easy to manage. You might to consider using that too.

Go for a hosting that has fantastico. In a fly you will get your SMF forum up and running. It is simple to mange.

be sure you find out what version of the forum software you are installing from your cpanel or whatever.
many hosts do not keep up to date versions.

if you have an out of date version of any programs on the server it will leave you open to the possibility of hackers getting in. ( this applies to the server software as well ).
Also, never, never depend on your host to make and keep good backups of your databases.
Things like bulletin boards/blogs etc. use a database. That is where all your members, posts etc are.

If you use the automatic update in cpanel for any of those programs, it quite often will overwrite all the files and you could loose any custom edits you had made.

I guess the bottom line is that you should not use the auto installs for these types of scripts. You need to have complete control over whatever you are using and the only way to do that is to be in control of the files etc.

There are many php forums ,lots of free shareware ones out there.Most of the forums have instructions that tell you how to create them.

If you don't have a host you will have to get one.

I use HostGator. They have a bunch of forum scripts that will install on your site automatically from the cpanel under fantastico.
