What is the Best Performance-Based Advertising Around?

Hey Fellow Warriors,

This is a run-through of some of the available traffic sources out there. It discusses the pros and cons of each traffic source, and finally suggests the best traffic source out there, after all factors have been considered.

My 1st thought is that free traffic really isn't worth it. It's never reliable and consistent, and the worse part is that you "pay" with time & effort, the worse thing you can be "spending". Even a minute wasted is life wasted. Money can easily be earned back many fold with smart thinking, but lost life can never, ever be earned back.

Which brings us to Paid Traffic Methods.

The only paid traffic methods that I would even consider are measurable traffic methods. That rules out outdoor advertising etc, unless your posters or banners have a QR code.

Which leaves us with Web Advertising.

But paying for mere impressions is useless too, because your ad appeared but may not have been noticed. It was flashed on the site, but 90% of the visitors may not even have noticed it.

So Let's Just Focus on Click-Based Advertising

PPC used to work, but I think it's pretty safe to safe it doesn't anymore no matter how smart and creative you may be. It's just way too saturated and the cost-per-click for practically every single keyword is just way too high. Solo ads do work. Period. For me, it's the only thing that has worked. Period. From leads, to sales, nothing even comes close to solo ads. But the problem is that you have to be extremely sure that you're buying from a good seller, and even then, there's plenty of wastage. You get about 40% or less of the 'clickers' opting in to your list, which means that 60% just gets flushed away. Plus, solos are expensive and far from automated. You buy from the seller and will have to wait for your send day. Then you measure the results and will have to manually buy again. I really don't mind paying for proven traffic, but the traffic has to come consistently and automatically. So I'll perhaps be charged monthly and automatically and I'll be able to see significant & consistent results, meaning regular leads and sales at acceptable amounts (at least 5% - 10%).

Let's Drill Deeper Than...

So click-based advertising may also not be good enough. The next level would be lead-based advertising meaning that you only pay for each lead that you get and nothing else. So, if they don't come through your funnel, you don't pay. So even 1 million visitors that don't sign up will not cost you a single dime. The best way to do this is with a pay-per-lead or cost-per-action network. The negative side of this is that you have to go through a stringent approval process, and people have to pick up and run with your offer, otherwise it's just going to sleep there.

Or you could start your own ppl programme. Unfortunately, this too takes a great deal of convincing, as you are unknown and people will have doubts as to whether you'll pay honestly.

An offshoot to this is profit-sharing where your affiliate gets a percentage of the amount made per sale, meaning that he gets paid only when he sells the product. This also requires a great deal of convincing as making sales really isn't that easy, even with a truly solid product.

Conclusion

All things considered, I think that a pay-per-lead network takes the cake and wins, hands-down as the best traffic source available. It's performance-based, and only good products take off, which means that generally only quality products get promoted and become popular. This is good for everybody: From Customers, to Affiliates with Reputations, to Vendors.

These are my thoughts. Feel free to disagree.

What's Your Best Traffic?

Cheers!
