Is having a Video Sales Letter on a Landing Page A Good Idea?

Is having a Video Sales Letter on a Landing Page a good idea?

Will it have better conversion?

The function of this particular landing page is to get opt-ins and, I am planning to put a 5 minutes Video Sales Letter in that opt-in page.

From another point of view, maybe people just want straight forward information in point forms bullet, as attention span online is really short.

Feel free to share your opinion.

Video certainly has a higher conversion rate but I wouldnt make it to long because not everyone likes to sit through long videos, I would recomend about 2 to 3 minutes at the most

Video Sales letters generate more interest (given that the video is made well - high quality and appealing to the audience) and often higher conversions.

I would suggest you test both options eventually but start with video.

I believe it would depend on the niche. So, you're better off testing it out.

Personally, I find video salespages kinda annoying. I like to go up and down on a text salespage to understand better what I'm buying or signing up for. That's just me though.

    Try both options.

Run the opt-in without a video for a few hundred visitors, then put the video and do the same thing.

Compare the opt-in rates and make a decision on what's better to pick. Normally, if the video is good, then it will help to raise the opt-ins, but otherwise it could make matters worse.

I think put video on a landing page is great idea. It will explain better, and most people are more interested in watching a video than reading a sales letter.

If it's a "talking head" video of you it might prove to be effective. A video is a good trust element and might help with your conversions. Keep the video short, simple, and to the point.Have one goal in mind which is getting the lead in your case. Test,test,test...

OK, I'll take the other side of the debate and go against most everyone's opinions.

I think having a sales letter of any kind, video or not, on a landing page is a bad idea.

You're typically sending cold traffic to a page that calls for an immediate sale? I don't care what you're selling . . . usually your conversions will be higher if you warm prospects up a bit (pre-selling) and provide them with some value before you smack them in the face with a sales pitch.

      But what do I know . . .

Personally I find videos a waste of my time. If you do video, make sure to also put an attention-grabbing headline and some text there as well, for those like me.

If you want someone like me to click on your video, make sure the text makes it so compelling that I have no choice but to watch

However, what you really want is if someone is going to click, it should be to opt in and enter their email address.

    Just my .02...

I would say, whether you want to use video or not, will depend on the type of traffic.

I suggest you to really take the time to study your traffic/audience.

In some niches, a video converts better, and in other niches text converts better. You know what I mean.

But, in general, I would say videos are always the best choice to send a message to an audience. And in this case, you should do a lot of split-testing.

Record a set of videos, all with different variables, and test them against each other with the same amount and type of traffic. And learn which one converts the best for you!

Is all about testing, and testing, and split testing!

    I hope this helps!

To me when you say video sales letter you are saying that you are trying to sell the product right then and there.

And this totally defeats the purpose of the Optin landing page.

Get the Optin first by providing a free gift that is of high quality.

Down the road you can then send the prospects to a sale page once you established some rapport with them.

It is a good idea though 5mins is a little bit long
How about a commercial/advertisement kind of thing?
Not too long, not too short and not exactly a sales type of video but something like an introduction, an interesting and inviting one.
This is actually a good approach and it is for you to find out how effective it will going to be.
I also suggest that you experiment on it, create 2 different videos and landing pages and see which one works best for you.

I think so, because it shows who you are. As long as you are presentable, then it should be no problem. The more marketing material you use, the better.

    • There is this little something for digital marketers and business owners called A/B testing.

To answer your question: You should test and then decide.

      Testing also applies for:
      • Shoud you use bullet points or plain text?
      • Should I use this headline or the other one?
      • Should I have a big orange button for CTA or the big Green one?

      And many more...

    Hi info,

    Use this tactic,

Create a 1 Minute video that create's an impulse. It needs to be short because your viewer will decide in 10 seconds if they will watch the entire video or not. With 5 minutes you will lose a lot of conversions and sales.

Once you have the video the first area of text is 5 or 10 bullets why your product is crucial for them, this has to correlate to the video and must be an "Extra impulse"for them to buy or sign up.

    "Sign up button here"

Then a text of 300- 500 words explaining your product or why your opt-in is best for them!

So why would you want to use this tactic? I figured with an opt-in this would be the first time they see you and your website, they have zero rapport with you and still need to figure out why your website is useful or not. With this tactic you will get a higher conversion than with a 5 minute video and a bunch of text.

    Hi there,

like a few said before. Split testing is a good way to test the normal landing page (standard text with eMail optin Single/Double) and the video landing page.

Its proven that in this days a video "sales latter" is converting better on average than a standard text optin page.

It also depends on the traffic source in my opinion...

If you order traffic (paid traffic) and its not that quality, most people tend to signup more on a Landing Page with a eye catching and emotional headline and a one field eMail signup instead of a video sales letter. That's my experience in the past...

For really high targeted traffic (e.g.: Solo Ads), people are already highly interested in the topic you are promoting and mostly now a little bit about that stuff... They will for sure watch a 5 Minute Video also and are more likely to optin to your list instead of a standard 1 headline 1 field eMail SignUp lander...

As I said that's my opinion and my experience.

Hope I could help you out a little bit & wish you a great day!

An opt in page is there to collect leads...nothing else.
Don't try to sell them something on that page.
If you are creating a sales page then having a video over text makes no difference.
If your product is good enough people will buy.
    Don't overthink the process.

It should be a pre-selling video rather than a VSL if the ultimate call to action is going to be an opt-in only instead of clicking a buy button.

Once the visitor opts in, you always have an option to send that subscriber to your sales page anytime you wish through the auto responder series.

The objective should be to have a prospect at least if not the sale at the first visit. Better conversions can be made by testing landing page and follow up mails. Conversions also depend upon what kind of traffic you are sending to your landing page.

What is the purpose of your video?

If you are using video to better illustrate points made on your landing page...then fantastic.

If you are just re-hashing what the text says...then maybe..

If you are just tossing a video up there for the sake of having a video on the page....yikes.

But in all cases..you'll only know after you try and test.

(Personally, I enjoy when someone uses videos to illustrate a point, but detest a pure video sales or landing page, I can read much faster than you talk.)

Depends on the traffic, so split test it. It's all going to boil down to your audience and how hard they are to engage. I find that an older audience likes to read long sales letters while the younger crowd are most likely to engage in a video. Of course with social media, videos allow the ability to share to other friends which can produce even more traffic.

It's all a testing game. Want to know a trick I discovered? Create yourself a little mini training/report and lead this into your paid offer without ever selling so to speak. Then create your landing page around your mini training. You'll go from a half a percent to 10, 15, 20% or higher with this strategy.

Again it's testing. I'm testing now a short 23 second video with my voice telling the viewer what I have and to opt in. I find prior to this testing that a couple of headlines, yeah some benefits of what they should expect and then the opt in and most surly a photo or two. Beware that photos are a wholenother testing process. I've had a campaign with what I thought to be a targeted photo and I wasn't really getting any conversions. All I did was switch just that one photo to something off the wall actually it was a pair of goldfish jumping from one bowl to anther and it totally spun the campaign around. That was a big learning day for me...

From a conversion standpoint, it really depends on the video, sales copy, presentation and how the delivery of the presentation is. I've seen great products trying to be sold to an american crowd from guys who can not speak English so well and ruin the sales pitch.

A sales video is more than just text, it has to have emotion in it when recorded to make it believable and also to increase sales, if its boring... it simply won't matter.

Also, with plain text, it also depends on your copy, the design of the page, what the market is use to seeing and so on.

Testing is critical like most of the other people said in the post, so there's definite answer for this.

Sure, as long as the video sales letter is good. Put it on youtube and check your drop off time. If most are dropping off and you're not getting sales, then redo the video.

Also, you can get great video spokespersons for a low budget off fiverr.
