Hi

Does anyone know of any free research tools for finding longtail keywords? Any I have looked at only seem to come up with 2 words.

Hi Mary,

I really like SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool, it gives results for several different search engines along with a few other goodies. Clicking on any search term will drill it down.

Just for fun I entered the word 'keywords', and though it has only 7 searches, it definitely qualifies as more than two words...

"summary of keywords a vocabulary of culture and society race"

  google keyword external works like magic , now shows search volume , compitition for adword users .... and list of long tail keywords according to search results , wat else do you want :-)

  I like Google's tool as well... With the addition of search volume... is there any reason to use a paid search tool?

  I do 2 things:
  
  1. Use the Google External Keyword tool (it tells you exactly how many people are searching on google for search terms now...that really is awesome).
  
  2. Use the free SEO book software and search for the term on Google to see what Google page rank the pages in the top 4 or 5 have.
  
  I also look to see if they're optimizing for the exact search term properly with page title, content etc.
  
  If at least 2 of the top 5 competitors for a term have low page rank and aren't really optimizing properly for a term I know I can make the top 5 on Google fairly easily.
  
  Once that number gets to 4 or 5 I know it's almost as easy as putting up one page and one backlink to make the top 3 on Google.
