Need a landing page / opt in critique

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie although i joined warrior almost 3 years ago. Started a niche/affiliate site just end of May and got a sale in 2nd week of June.

I need some help and wisdom from warrior brothers here whom are much more experienced. I'm in the type2 diabetes niche (because I'm an type 2 diabetic as well) and i'm using a basic landing page to get opt ins for a follow up autoresponder series. To drive traffic i use ppc from bing ads and facebook ads.

So far in the 3 weeks (i've only started facebook ppc for 1 week) and my stats are

This is the landing page

Bing: 98 clicks , 14k plus impressions , cpc $1.14
FB: 80 clicks , 2.6k impressions, cpc %$0.31
Opt-in : 12
Unsubscribed: 1
Pending confirmation: 7
Affiliate sales: 1

From the stats, I know my opt-in is REALLLLY low and not sure why i'm getting many pending confirmations (mainly from Facebook ad clicks)

Other points I'm planning to implement in the next few weeks

1) Start a blog - mainly on how I dealt with reversing my type 2 diabetes (using my own voice) , perhaps put a link from my landing page

2) Article submission to article sites.

3) Eventually I want to produce my own products. Starting with affiliate marketing to build a list and understand the works of IM and niche marketing.

Hope you can give a good critique and tips to help me improve this. Thanks in advance. Really appreciate it.

Mickey

Are you willing to share examples of your ads?

It could be a disconnect between your ad message and what they find on your landing page.

In Facebook it's a mainly the pic of the ebook cover and text and bing it's mainly text like this
" ex-diabetic reveals how to normalize blood sugar & hba1c. Free report"
"Normal blood sugar now! Download the Free Report If You Want To Solve Your Blood Sugar Problems and Have 128% More Energy Throughout The Day"

I didn't do any split testing for the time being

It sounds like you might have your capture page set on double optin...

But to be honest i can't give you any real advice unless i actually saw the landing page you are sending them too, and the product you are promoting!

Good job! My eyes were immediately drawn to your orange button.( That's the color that unbounce recommends from doing studies.)

Instead of such a large picture of the book, you could reduce it and have bullet points of the very best benefits your book offers.

Overall I'd give an A- on this assignment. Ha ha !

    God Bless my friend!

Yeah man i think so too...

talking about keywords...what would you suggest , or perhaps which direction i should be looking at?

new announcements ? you mean broadcasting more emails through the autoresponder and also connect with the subscribers more?

thanks for your feedback and reply by the way

If I were this target demo, I would want to know more.

Some bullet points about each of the 7 daily routines would be a good start.

You obviously can't give away everything, but I would offer some hints that give the reader a clue as to how easy these will be for me to adopt, and how they will positively affect my issues.

Overall, the page is visually appealing, the book cover is great, and the opt-in button is fine. I think you just need more information.

I've done extensive testing on lead capture pages over the years... Here are some things I'd immediately test:

    1) make your list single opt-in. This will always get you the most amount of leads. Double opt-in list are so 2008 ish. :-) if you want to see 30%-50% of your ad budget wasted on people who are too lazy to click the confirm link then keep it on.

    2) remove the name field from your web form. Again that's so 2009ish. Most folks who generate a massive amount of leads ditched the name field years ago.

    3) Remove the book image...

    4) remove the pre-head "Yes" statement...

    5) change the button text from "get instant access" to a different specific call to action statement like "Give Me The Report" or "Send Me The Report" or anything other than the text you have. This will give you a conversion bump as well.

The layout isn't bad, but a couple of things stand out for me.

The first is on your ebook cover. Lose the word "guaranteed" before it gets you in trouble. Even though you don't use the word "cure," that's what you are promising.

Your whole headline/subhead sounds scammy. As a diabetic yourself, you may have found ways to manage your blood sugar, but I really doubt anyone's doctor would say you've cured it. Another use of the word "guaranteed" is another problem.

At this point, the only thing you know about your visitors is that they clicked an ad for a free ebook. The only thing they know about you is that you ran an ad for a free ebook, and that you have a penchant for making hypey claims.

My guess is that you will do much better with the basic hero story. You have Type 2, you learned to manage it naturally with simple routines, and now you want to share. Much more believable, especially if you can add some details (before/after blood sugar levels, how long you've maintained control, etc.) using the actual medical terms.

        Hey John,

Thanks for your feedback and reply.

Agreed. I will search for a more suitable word other than "guaranteed"

Not many physicians will actually say "cured" but quite a number are now in the school of "reversed" and have the necessary proof to back it up. I noticed in my ads and keywords, ppl are more inclined towards "normalize blood sugars" rather than "cure diabetes" (something of that sort)...so i think you have a great point there.

Ok...i'll tone down on the salesy hypey stuff and be more real. Thanks again for your advise and feedback , John...really appreciate it!

      hey DeShawn,

      Thanks for the great feedback.

      1. Yeah i've just spoke to my autoresponder provider to change the list settings to single opt in. 50% are still pending confirmation.

2-5. Noted on your suggestions. Will do some split testing to see how effective it gets.

THanks once again for the feedback and suggestions. Appreciate your wisdom and experience.

I can tell that there's been alot of revisions, but i like the layout and design of the page. Looks nice. I would mention in the sub-head that they're receiving an ebook, and not "7 Daily Routines". And change the title of the webpage. Lose the "main -" part at the beginning.

Your page looks very good if you ask me. You should get some better results with a page like that especially in a niche where people are desperately looking for a solution. Make sure that your ads reflect your landing page as much as possible

I've got to agree with Deshawn the most here.

along with everything he said, I'd take a step back and figure out what my audience is asking on a regular basis.

"man, I have no energy" "jeez, my legs are tingling and I have to inject myself daily" "do I really have to take these pills every single day"

really get into the emotions of issues they have.

Can't tend to the garden, play with grandkids, can't eat what they used to love.

then I'd make sure to have a very simple, to the point ad addressing one of those problems, with the landing page being a reflection of EXACTLY what the ad said.

Not saying too much, but just repeating what the ad said. Then testing and tweaking from there.

This could be an entire new split test. Not necessarily a tweak to your current funnel.

In your landing page case -

You're getting a decent amount of clicks - but try to test what deshawn said. I'd get rid of name field and double opt in first and test.

But guess what, you're taking action. Something most folks don't ever think about doing. Congrats and keep pushing buddy!

      Hey David,

      Thanks for the feedback.

Yup it's my first time doing something like this and i'm sure there will be lots of room to improve.

I like how you'd mentioned about taking a step back...it's really good and i appreciate you sharing this...blind spots to me.

I've done some changes to the initial ad and split test it via 2 different landing pages...and the results are quite illogical but makes sense....

most of the traffic comes from mobile nowadays...and my main landing page had actually a poorer opt in % compared to a REALLY simple and basic box that is only able to cover the mobile device screen. Guess everything is in focus without zooming or scrolling.

And yea just removed the double opt in...previously i was seeing 1/2 of the opt ins 'confirmation pending'

thanks once again for your feedback and kind words...

      Mickey

You have some excellent advice above so I will try not to repeat to much of it. ,

This is my view from a person who has Diabetes Type 2 & has struggled with it for many years. I have been served plenty of ads etc. Of course Facebook knows I have Diabetes lol, so I'm sure I get the ads from their excellent targeting.

I was drawn to your squeeze page by the ebook graphic, very nice! However, I was slightly turned off by the use of the word guaranteed on the cover. The big Yes! & italicized Now! caused some red flag feelings along with 128% & Guaranteed. I thought how can that be guaranteed & was energy levels really measured?

Still I filled out the form to check out the ebook.

Then I was directed to your landing page that did not look anything like the signup page, in fact it looked strange to me, not what I expected. I wondered if I was in the right place. Normally I would have clicked away but I downloaded the ebook to have a look.

I would change that page to match your squeeze page.

The landing page told me to look for Confirm Your Subscription in my email. However, that did not appear in my email. What did appear was the subject line from Mike Wong - Here Is Your Free ebook... Enjoy!

That is a good headline in imho but I would change the "Confirm Your Subscription" on your landing page to the real subject line.

Landing on your thank you/download page I was presented with a very empty page on your blog. To the right your visitors will probably notice the Large Click Here to Download page heading & the " Add some widgets! (Posts Sidebar)" text to the right.

You should spruce this up with an image & content. Really I would just send them to a page formatted like your squeeze page.

If they look around the blog all they will see is an unfinished blog void of much content & place holders for images... not confidence inspiring.

On to the ebook... The ebook opens up to a blank page in adobe reader except for a copyright notice at the bottom. Scrolling down one could not help but notice the enormous chapter headings & large text along with the triple spaced paragraphs.

Some pages had no more than 3 sentences on them.

The formatting of the ebook did not inspire confidence in its content. IMHO, being a diabetic yourself I think you could likely write a better ebook, giving your own voice & making it more personal. Telling your story.

If your not comfortable with your writing you could have someone proof read it, touch it up & have it properly formatted. Tiffany Dow (sorry Tiffany can't remember your proper last name) could do this for you, the investment would be worth it.

You may have put the cart before the horse. I would fix the issues & fill out the blog with good content & images. You might want to do this before collecting subscribers
    .
Just my observations from someone with Diabetes Type2, not trying to be harsh, hope this helps.

I'd try a different headline - something with more benefit associated with it.

I'd also try some bullet points giving a little value of what is actually in the book.

I feel like it's just not quite enough information about the product to "hook" me.

    Way to go so far!

Congrats! .. just keep moving forward!

Alright. I see what you are doing here. One thing that you should really look at is your ad message.

Sometimes your ad message is not so congruent with your landing page, and that causes low conversion rates.

You should also test different things on your capture page. Different colors, and button colors, ad copy, opt in form placement, etc.

Also, try using a 2-Steps Basic capture page. Those tend to convert better because of the micro commitment psychology behind it!

You just have to keep split testing different ad copies, and different landing pages. Until you find what is converting the best!

    I hope this helps!

    Keep up the great work!
