You might want to consider social media and guest posting on high traffic websites for white hat SEO. In today's SEO, quality of link is much better than quantity.

I stopped article marketing a few years back, but this comment intrigued me. Do any of you still article market, and if you do, how do you do it, and what is the purpose? Traffic? Links? I'm just being curious.

Yesteryear's Article marketing via Article Directories = Today's Content Marketing via Social Media.

It was a slow and painful transition for those who refused to acknowledge the shift.

I do content marketing but in a creative way. I don't just focus on submissions.
I focus more on how the content will catch people's interest.
Content marketing is beneficial for traffic generation as well as increasing organic search, backlink too.

Article marketing (or more precisely - content marketing) has traditionally been used by professionals for nearly as long as mass media has been available, beginning with the invention of the printing press. It is a classic type of advertising in which businesses write short articles about themselves, their company or their field of expertise as a marketing strategy.

Except in its more recent and crippled form popularized by nefarious self-interests and the misinformed (ie article spinning, directory submissions, gaming the search engines, spamming for backlinks, etc) content marketing always has been and will continue to be an extremely powerful marketing model and formidable tool for connecting with targeted audiences.

Content Marketing has a few terms / concepts that can be looked up for a better understanding. "Corner Stone Content" and "Pillar Content" would be 2 terms that quickly come to mind.

I personally write more than my share of content and don't so much follow those models. What's good for Social is not always so good for SEO. Im not talking about the structure of the page or the writing itself.. more about the titles and the amount of content etc. "Top 5 Wordpress Themes" would make for a good social piece but in terms of an article on your blog that you want to use for SEO maybe not so much.

I would go so far as to say that the delivery of the piece in many ways dictates the piece itself. What you write for an e-mail is different than what you write for say twitter.. and what you write for twitter may be different than what you write for facebook.

Trying to centeralize and unify your message across many platforms is I think a mistake. But understanding where your twitter community is at and what would interest them may differ from your facebook crowd and what would interest them. Content should not be about "creating content" it should be about connecting to people. and if you have all these different sources of traffic doesn't it make sense to develop and create content to meet each of their needs?

There has been a new wave of internet marketing referred to as "Content Marketing", which leverages not only articles, but videos and images as way to connect with audiences on social media and web 2.0's as opposed to mainly getting traffic for search engines.

Article marketing isn't dead, in fact you can still backlink articles and rank them for your keywords on Google, but it is better to use content to build a relationship with your audience.

Not only will you get more traffic, but you will have higher quality backlinks, given that your content is actually quality.

If you do choose to still do traditional SEO tactics, don't use old article content farms, use a web 2.0 like Tumblr or rank a youtube video.

Yes, we are also doing article marketing in most of the cases to generate links and increase our ranks on Google. So far, it is pretty useful if you count on a good keyword. In most of the cases, the artickles itself are being published in guest blogging sites or other paid sites that requires paymnet for the post to be published.

Article marketing is alive and well - it just moved from article directories to social ones. Publishing on LinkedIn is an example of an excellent way to get views to your articles (you can auto share to Twitter when using their publisher dashboard).
Curiously, I found that one of my Ezinearticles pieces was syndicated by SiteProNews.com, so using their platform isn't entirely dead, depending on the topic you write on.

Article marketing is very much alive.... BUT NOT in the same form as 10 years ago.

You can't get away with submitting the same random article to everywhere.

You have to find niche-specific blogs and websites.

You have to submit one original article per blog/site.

Your article has to be 100% original and USEFUL.

Link only to your site using your brand name or site name.

Expect some of your submissions to be rejected. They have to be approved by HUMAN editors who can be VERY PICKY.

    Focus on QUALITY not QUANTITY.
