Smoothies for health!

Like I said on my first thread, health is my expertise. So I was thinking of narrowing down my focus to healthful smoothies.

I'm sure most of you have heard of smoothies, but honestly, the majority of the stuff sold at smoothie shops is not all that healthy. There's way too much fruit and sugar added, an not enough nutrients.

I blend my own healthful smoothies (that still taste good) that include an array of vitamins, minerals, and macro-nutrients that are essential for our bodies. I actually have an ingredient list and instructions I hand out to people who are interested, with positive results.

Do you think that I can build a sustainable IM business focusing only on healthful smoothies?

Any tips or brainstorming is warmly welcomed.

First, could you please let us know what your health qualifications are. Do you have a degree in nutrition or are you just really interested?

Besides that, smoothie recipes are a dime a dozen. You need to differentiate yourself from the pack. Do you have any research/study findings to back up any claims you might want to make regarding your smoothies?

      JohnJames,

So what will you sell? At the end of the day, you have to sell something to make money.

Selling the smoothies themselves seems to be mostly a local business. Selling recipes seems like a tough route since, as others have said, they are all over the Internet and free for the viewing.

Maybe an ebook on the smoothies including the difference between healthy smoothies and those you can buy locally with your recipes included?

I'm not sure that this corner of the health market has a lot of "paid" demand potential. Do your market research and see what your audience is asking for.

        Good question.

What I can think of so far are specific supplement/ingredients needed for the healthy smoothies that can be found on websites like amazon (people would buy various supplements based on their health goals). I can also sell a program to help individuals achieve their health goals.

I can also sell a blender to those who don't have one. lol.

Focus on creating your own program. Maybe an e-book with a few videos showing people how to prep and make smoothies and different recipes.

Amazon has a good affiliate program but the commissions are so low I would never make this a main priority or focus. You could probably find a nutritional affiliate that pays a decent commission, 20% or so, for selling a blender. But I'd still focus on creating your own products.

Yes. I have a plethora of research on hand to back it up. Also I'm a certified herbalist with a biochem background.

No one can give a solid answer without knowing what the product and service will be. Start with that, not just an industry.

If you are getting into affiliate marketing you might have a hard time promoting products related to smoothies. You might be better off developing your own product.

Yes I think developing your own product is a good idea. You will need to make it somewhat unique, have a different angle so that it is not just like a bunch of other products. Smoothie recipes, any recipes are all over the internet for free. You may be needing into a very competitive field.

Hmmm, well it's kind of tough to come up with a unique product as such.

However, I do have a unique formula you add to water and will grow your hair, nails, and tighten your skin (works really well)... but how hard would it be for me to manufacture a liquid product?

Personally I would try using your recipes as a lead magnet to collect emails and then promote affiliate health, fitness, weight loss, etc... related products. You could white label or create your own supplements. You could create your own powder mix supplement, of course that is more expensive than pills and costs more to ship.

      What ^he^ said.

You will never create a sustainable online business off of smoothies. The only thing that may work is really funny and creative videos on youtube but even then your going to struggle.

Do what works and don't gamble.

So your basically saying that I collect emails to sell related products, such as through clickbank, etc.? Do you know where I can find white label health supplements?

Wow. I never really thought about it.

So that's why my local health grocer can have their own brand name supplements... they just buy bulk private labels and slap their logo on it.... interesting.

Not just your local health store. Even big boys like WalMart private label a multitude of products.

Thirty-something years ago, before Al Gore invented the Internet , I had a financial bind, and I went to work for a temp agency. One of the recurring assignments was for a company that private-labelled things like shampoo, hair conditioner, etc. It was not uncommon for the foreman to stop the line in mid shift, change the roll of labels on the bottling machine, and start the line again. That was the only change.

Since you have your own recipes, you just need to find a manufacturer that specializes in batch manufacturing until you grow enough to take it on yourself.

YOUR own smoothies. YOUR own private label vitamins. YOUR own recipe books. Do you see how BRANDING is working it's way through this conversation? YOU are the key, not the products you're trying to sell.

With your unique qualifications, I would market yourself first, and see if you can get some personal traction. Write a Kindle book with your unique angle and position, and get it out there to get your name out there. Do some promotion, PR releases, podcast interviews on like minded shows, radio interviews, local news, high-visability guest posts, anything to get YOU out there. Link it all back to your website, and sell YOUR products from there.

Your qualifications give you the opportunity to present things from a more respected opinion than most. You're a goldmine waiting to happen.

As long as you have backend products that can supplement your sales and continually add profits to your bottom line... yes, i think you can build a sustainable business in this niche.

You will have competition, so your marketing has to be crafty. Yet the niche is still small enough where you can create a "dent" in it - and make your impression on the niche... as an *expert*. I say go for it.

P.S. Would you be creating ebooks or recipe books.... or selling smoothies, in the form of actual drinks?

I think that branding could be used heavily in your situation. I'm thinking about Joe Cross (see, I even pulled his name out of thin air, amazing), and his movie, "Fat Sick and Nealy Dead". I'm sure he's made a lot of money off of creating that movie/name/franchise. All on a simple idea, and a video camera.

Nicheing down to healthy smoothies is a great idea! This will create a very targeted stream of traffic that will convert higher.

At the moment these supplements, health teas, and super mixes are trending big time! If you look on social media like Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook there are tons of companies raking in the cash by marketing these products in unique ways. If you have great photos you can gain a lot of traffic this way. Incorporating social media into your business plan is key to your success.
