Hi,

I am a little worried with the recent changes in the Amazon payout system as to how to proceed when I start writing books.

Does anybody have any advice on what type of books(non-fiction, novels, series of short stories) will be a better bet to focus my energies on with the new payout rules?

Thanks,

Vivian

Write what you're good at writing, and write a lot of it. Good + long = more pages read.

Also don't worry about it. You don't actually have a problem here, you're predicting a future problem. Worry about it when the future is now and you actually see the problem existing.

Put in a lot of images. Learn how to add videos to your e-book on amazon. Also, add links to other resources. This is good advice always, but now even more so. However, it is very important to keep your viewers on. Get them to turn every page. OK so add some scary cliff hangers to your saga. For example, at the end of chapter one.

You should get a website and sell these kinds of books on your own site. You can charge more, accept Paypal (so you get paid instantly), and make the rules. Amazon/Kindle could come out with a new *update* that could destroy all the hard work you put in on your books.

Me personally.... i would sell on my own site, and draw people to it.

Thanks Randall for the great advice! Any tricks for getting maximum traffic to a website once I create one?

        The easiest ways are:

        - PPC
        - Advertising on non-competitive sites in your niche
        - Forum promotion
        - Starting your own forum (become the authority in your niche)
        - Mobile marketing

I love Kindle Unlimited for getting lots of books on different subject of interest to me.
I am sure most people are not like me in that I generally, even on sections that I am fairly knowledgeable on,flip through most every page even if its very quickly just to scan the page for bolded important things, highlighted from other users, etc. just to pick up any helpful info.

Also it is always annoying to me that when you open a new book it starts 5 pages in or whatever. I always go back to the cover and start there. Only when I can tell the book is completely horrible or going in a direction away from what I wanted to learn will I not finish at least skimming through it.

I am probably a kindle publishers best customer for the new Kindle Edition Normalized Pages Read system. lol

This is fairly easy to fix

Write your books as self-contained and self-referencing units.

    It's that simple.

    Seriously.

I already do that with books I write. The key?

Get people excited about upcoming chapters AND...

Refer back to previous chapters and ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS

    Emotional triggers work well too!

My advice would be with whatever you end up writing you need to keep your readers engaged with your writing. Don't try to write a long book just to get more pages read because if the book is filled with filler and junk your readers will not finish your book and you won't get the 100% payout. With the new KU 2.0 you want to aim at getting your books read 100% no matter what the length is. If your not getting 100% read thru's then it doesn't matter how long your books are. If you want to discuss this matter further just send me a pm and we can bounce some idea's around.
