no clue how to set up a wordpress theme

I recently bought a wordpress theme from themeforest.
With a lot of difficulty I finally uploaded it, but now I don't have a clue how to proceed, what to do next. I have a plan and an idea for a new blog, but technically I am a zero, I don't even know what all the words mean.
I bought an ebook on amazon, but it's very general, no technical advice, I don´t understand what they're talking about.

What would be the best way to get help?
.
Paying someone on fiverr to install it? They need passwords and it's hard for me to explain specifics how I want it.
Wordpress support?
Or searching for a "live tudor"?
Asking for help on blackboards in youth hostels and universities?

Any ideas and suggestions welcome, thanks

There are lots of videos on youtube that will walk you through step by step on installing a Wordpress theme. It's pretty simple and there are actually multiple ways of doing it. You could pay someone on Fiverr, but it would require sending passwords. Did the ebook explain uploading it directly through your Wordpress admin area, or unzipping it and uploading the files via FTP first?

Yes, in any new field of study there are going to be new terms for you to learn. Auto mechanics. Accounting. Beekeeping. Medicine. Computer Science.

Google each term you don't know.

    Here is a Wordpress glossary.

Specific themes will usually--not always, but usually--have documentation of their own, with screenshots explaining how to use their specific settings. If the developer has made some, you can see these on the Documentation tab of the theme's home page in the Wordpress Codex.

Commercial themes will almost always have their own documentation page, like this one for the popular Customizr theme. If you had mentioned the name of the one you bought, I could have looked for its documentation page.

Other people have gone through what you are going through. Some of them created videos to help. Google or go to Youtube and search for "[Your theme's name] wordpress theme tutorial" or "setup" instead of tutorial and you will probably find many videos explaining what to do.

Look up the definitions of words you don't understand. It's good practice in everyday life. And nowadays it's easier than ever...I used to have to keep a printed dictionary on hand, but now all I have to do is tap the word in Kindle and presto! the definition pops up.

You will start this as with any new field having a black cloud for say 95% of the knowledge and terms. But with every definition you learn, you'll start whittling that down. An afternoon later, 90%. A day, 60%. Two days, 20% black cloud left. And I am sure that after three days of sustained effort, you will know 99% of the terms you need to know.

Your attitude towards the problem, more than anything else, defines the problem. If you come at this believing, "This will be hard; this IS hard", you will have trouble. But it is not hard; nothing is, except what we make difficult. And perhaps brain surgery. But not at this technical level of installing a theme. It's merely a matter of learning some syntax.

As was already mentioned, YouTube is always a good option. Fiverr not so much, but if you do decide to go that route make sure you change your WordPress/FTP/hosting account passwords afterwards just to be safe.

If you're planning on having to set up more websites yourself, I would go ahead and invest $25/month in something like Treehouse. They offer a lot of really good video courses that walk you through everything you need to know about things like WordPress and SEO. If you want to just be able to manage the site, they tell you how. If you want to dig into the actual code, there's resources for that too.

Of course YouTube is free though I've had a really good experience with Treehouse though and I'd really recommend them if you're going to be doing this more often.

    Best of luck!

Often times themes you purchase have video tutorials available within the admin area. Did you check there for tutorials?

Usually there is a support function or contact info for the theme creator in the admin area as well.

If all else fails, head over to YouTube and search for tutorials for the particular theme you purchased.

First read the detailed tutorial that comes with most premium themes... not all unfortunately.

Then find out if there are any video tutorials to help with the theme setup.

After that your best is to contact the theme author with specific questions.

I've seen some authors go out of their way and setup the demo site for free.

If it's a typical WP theme then it can be installed from your cpanal with couple of clicks but if you don't know the process, definitely browse around some vids on the youtube
