Wordpress and Authority Sites

Does anyone know how Wordpress sites rank when used as authority sites?

I'm creating an authority site for local restaurants that will he based on the "rent-a-site" model. When its ranking well I'll put the customers info on the home page.

The idea here is to have the option of selling the site down the road, so I was thinking that Wordpress might be the way to go. However, I'm thinking that maybe the competition will come out with a full-on site and present a serious challenge.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I don't think there is much of a market for a wordpress account. You need to own the domain if you want to flip a site. I suggest you promote the site on a wordpress blog but that you own the domain if your objective is to flip it.

Yeah, agreed with above as I always by my own domains...having the keyword in the domain is vital and I don't think wordpresss.keyword ranks very high up there...

Hell, I've never tried it though...

    Edited:
Oh well in that case WP blogs work just fine...

That's all I use...websites are to much of a pain to build vs. WP sites

Sorry I misunderstood this to mean a blog on wordpress.com

Are you concerned that if you put a wordpress blog on your domain that it may be outclassed by the competition? I really don't think it would matter. A domain is a domain. If it has targetted traffic and makes money it can be sold.

For what you are doing I would use Joomla. It gets you all the dynamic content features you need and a blog thrown in to boot. It does not have all the sophisticated blog features that wp does but it rocks. If you really need a spiffy blog with all the bells and whistles then use both joomla and wp. But I think Joomla will meet 95% of your requirements.

Wordpress is just a platform to build the actual site. Some people use Joomla or Drupal.

If you properly optimize the site for the search engines no matter what platform you use to build the site it will rank high.

You can build a "full-on" site using Wordpress...

    Personally, I use Joomla...

If setup and used properly self-hosted WordPress will rank very well.

If you have more keyword anchored backlinks than your competitor then you are going to outrank them in google no matter what platform/CMS you use.

Having the keywords in the domain helps but you can overcome anything with enough keyword anchored backlinks, especially if you can get them from authority sites.

    Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks. So backlinks rule. Awesome. This particular site will be for a local pizza shop, and I'll try to get him to outrank about 15 other shops. Things are pretty quiet now on the page, with only about 1 PPC ad.

Backlinks for pizza. Hmmm...I'm sure I'll come up with something. Maybe Chamber of Commerce related stuff...

    Thanks.
