Moving from ecommerce to niches or affliate?

I have an ecommerce site however currently making no sales. I sell cupcake and cake boxes. In the past I made sales, using Google PPC but the cost where too high. It did cost more than the actual cost of product. I am not sure if the cost would have gone down in the longer term, but at the time I was losing so much money. All my data feeds and the products are still set up.

I came here a few months and some advised to go out however have had no sales after door to door and leaflet dropping. It ranks for some keywords so like last year I had a few sales at christmas. I have the stock and have lost my motivation with this business.

I am now thinking of moving to non physical products. There is a diet niche I am interested in, which I am also passionate about. I have about $500 to begin with. Is this wise and what could I spend the $500 on?

A website without promotion is NEVER going to work - no matter what the content. The $500 is irrelevant - you need to have a ROI for it to make sense.

It sounds like you made a half-hearted effort and failed in your other business.

You really need to spend some time learning about internet marketing before you spend another dime. There are lots of good resources on the internet (this is not necessarily one of them due to all the bloated egos here).

Find something you're passionate about and simply never, never, never, never, never give up - just make sure to spend your money wisely.

I agree with rseigel. I would first learn the ins and out of the industry first then the niche before making an investment. You could easily start earning commissions without spending a dime on advertising. I recommend networking with others who already succeed in your niche and allow them to guide you if they're willing.

I think non physical products are better because you could have highter commision.
Anyway you should master very well your PPC campaign, optimize them with many test
    and searching the best keywords.

if you have 500$ you could build a mailing list with an autoresponder + landing page.
Of course, don t forgot to use social networks pages!

I have a few things to say. We all know the e-commerce model works. I think one of your biggest problems with that is the products you are selling. Not only are they very niche (don't seem like a big market but haven't done the research to confirm this), but they are very low-costs items. This means that you are going to need tons of traffic that converts really well. If you want to stay with this model, you need to learn the ins and outs of it, try to sell your inventory and perhaps another product with mass-market appeal.

With that said, niche blogging with affiliate marketing (review-site model) is probably the most common route to take. It's also inexpensive to get into. The good news is that the niche you want to go into is also profitable. In order to save money, you could start out by promoting a product that you already own (that gets searches). There are also lots of products to learn from.

If you intend to stick with the same business model, try promoting your products locally using social media platform. You can easily segregate friends, contacts as well as users based on the location you wish to target your products to.

I would spend all of them, or at least biggest chink of that fund for paid traffic, traffic is what matters at the end of the day!

Before you spend a single dime on anything.....

It does not matter if you are selling cake boxes or non physical products. YOU will have the same problem regardless. TRAFFIC. How is non physical products going to be any different?

You are simply going to repeat the process. Build a site display some products. then what? you have no traffic, so you will have no customers, and you will be right where you are right now, minus $500.

So you have inventory? and you have a site? and now all you need is traffic?

What if I were to offer you a short term FREE one on one on how to develop traffic for your site? PM me if you are interested.
