Affiliate Marketing...does it still work?

by saluca

Given that there is SO much free information available on the internet, why would people buy a product anymore?

If I want to build a shed, I Google it. If I want to learn how to speak in public, I Google it. If i want to play golf, i Google it. If I want to learn how my other half thinks, I Google it (safer that way).

Are sites like Clickbank and JVZoo still places to find something profitable? Do sales pages still work?

Yes, sales pages still work, and you can still make a lot of money through affiliate marketing.

People pay money not because they can't find the information for free but because it would take an insane amount of work (and research) to figure everything out on your own.

The amount of money you invest in a good product is a fraction of what it would cost if you were to spend that same time working a job instead of gleaning "free" information.

      Regards,
      Daniel

From my experience, people are often looking for an easy way out. They want to free up time, make their life simpler and more comfortable. This includes internet marketing and running an online business.

I think one of the best ways to make money online is to offer a service of high value. One such way would be SEO related. There is soo much mysticism and uncertainty with Google rankings these days, I can see why people will pay upwards of $1500 a month just to ensure their online presence is squeaky clean. I mean especially with a company worth hundreds of thousands if not more.

The bottom line is if you can offer something that some person perceives as having value, or the ability to save them time, then you will always have a buyer.

You are not your target market. And, if your target market doesn't buy things, you're in the wrong market.

Not all affiliate marketing involves the types of information products you allude to. Heck, you can even sell real products relating the topics you're looking for.

As for your other half... Well... I'll let you pick out the book that works for you

The point is that people buy books, TVs, cameras, pianos, chairs, light bulbs and all sorts of other things all of the time. And every one of those types of products can be promoted as an affiliate marketer. Of course, you still have to provide a compelling reason that someone should buy through you instead of going to a site like Amazon direct, but that's hardly impossible.

That said, if your question is why would someone buy a $37 guide by some no-name author on Clickbank on how to play golf instead of the $8 golf book referenced above -- one that was written by a real golf professional and one that was professionally edited and published... Well, you got me there... But that's why I don't sell that kind of crap. Still just because I don't get it and you don't get it doesn't mean it doesn't work at all. Others certainly make money selling that sort of thing! But it does probably mean that both you and I should look to other types of products to sell.

Yeah, it still works and people still buy stuff. Heck, I'm a marketer, and I still do it (did it just the other day). The reason is because I prefer to learn from systems. Plus, people who want to buy stuff are always looking for reviews to answer their questions before they buy.

Same question can be asked about porn DVD's vs. free porn on the tube sites.

Porn DVD's still make money too - even till this day.

There's alot of free information, but people are too lazy to look up EVERYTHING to formulate a solution for a problem. So they want you to do it... preferably nicely put together too.

As Marcel put it, people will buy a product if it's faster and easier to get the information. Why spend hours searching for the right information when you can buy a product that claims to have that information, plus more, and is backed by its customers?

  • Not all people are comfortable with searching for information online. There are still people who are looking for value in information and that is why they are looking for good products out there.

Like most of the comments here, affiliate marketing still works. The success will depend largely on how you promote your products.

There are tons of free information on this forum I am sure you will get good pieces of advice on how to start your success with affiliate marketing.

I do CPA lead generation...all anyone has to do is fill out a form, nothing to buy/no credit card needed and I make on average $20-$60 each on the bulk of what I promote, but some pay more and some less. Done right and 6 figures is easy and 7 figures is totally possible.

People still buy because people try and fail over and over again. The reason they still buy info products is because of the same reason they still buy weight loss products - they fail, and the next product might be "the answer" they have been looking for - the easiest, laziest, fastest way to make money, lose weight, build muscle, end pain...that's what they want and can't have - so they continue to search and buy.

As long as they continue to search and buy, there will be affiliates who will make good money. Not everyone succeeds with affiliate marketing, but not everyone is equal in brains, focus, persistence, experience and so on...like anything else in life.

And not everything promoted is information related, obviously. The biggest affiliate promotions these days are for software.

You seem to have a bit of confusion here.

"Affiliate marketing" simply means promoting someone else's product in return for a percentage of a sale made due to the referral. In the offline world, this would be similar to being an independent sales rep.

"Infoproduct marketing" is a subset of affiliate marketing if the product owner offers affiliate commissions.

Even infoproduct marketing works because some people don't trust Google. Others have tried the "just google it" method and been stuck in the morass of affiliate crap (phony review sites, splogs, etc.) and are searching for authentic authority.

I still remember a cartoon from the New Yorker showing two canines sitting behind a computer. The caption read, "On the Internet, no one knows you're a dog."

    It sure does.

Online, people pay for convenience and expert advice on specific topics. People also buy as many, if not more products online than off.

You can learn how to do almost anything without having to buy an ebook or course if you're willing to put the time and effort into finding the information. But how long would it take? And how much aggravation would you have to endure?

If you have everything you need (and usually more), presented in a succinct package you can access in 60 seconds or less, at a price that is worth it to you, would you be interested?

I'd think yes, and that's why affiliate marketing works so well. You simply find ways and means to connect the right buyer with the right offer and then the magic happens.

Maybe because people's purpose of seeking information doesn't get solved with free information only.

People don't value the free information as well.

Worse yet, people do not take actions according to the paid information that is really worth of paying.

Regarding your question, yes affiliate marketing works well when done properly.

Most of the product creators also practice affiliate marketing as a supportive stream for their business.

I do believe affiliate marketing will continue on easily for the next couple of years.

Free products are always out there but do remember that within those free products a ton of them are junk. You occasionally can find a gem sieving through all the free information but more often than not, you'll only find the commonly told basics that doesn't really answer the questions you have.

These are where paid products come in and offer value content in exchange for coming along with a price tag.

But like others have mentioned, if you are doing a niche where your potential buyers will not fork out any cash for products, its actually you having a wrong target audience rather than affiliate marketing not working.

    Hey there!

Affiliate marketing is alive and well.

The very best thing to do is "STAND OUT" in your niche.

    Be different.

    Be unique.

Be a friend to your list.

    Be human.

DON'T use the "pre-written swipes" that are included in most
    affiliate pages.

    Create your own content.

And remember: Spend 90% of your time building your optin list.
