Hi Gang, Can someone pull a blog post onto their blog or website without permission? With all links intact. But without contacting us for an OK? Anyone have the right copyright site info to back this up? Thanks so much! Bill |

Can they do it? Sure. Should they do it? Nope. If you're worried about your original content being stolen by the masses, run your site through Copyscape - Search for Website Plagiarism and Duplicate Content Online. They also have some links at the bottom of the page about plagiarism and your rights. |

Hi, I'm not talking about plagiarism. This would be a blog post being posted on another blog. All links, my title, name, etc., are intact. So it's being attributed to me, but posted without my prior content. Thanks Rob! P.S. Upon review, maybe that's the definition of plagiarism. I'm not exactly upset by it...more curious than anything. It's free publicity, but still, I didn't give prior content. |

People pulling my content with links and bylines intact is a problem I wouldn't mind having. Think of it as one more backlink to help out your search ranking!

But I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you're given proper credit, especially with all links intact. In fact, you should be jumping for joy at this point, but that is just my opinion.

it is copyright violations and if you make money by writing you can sue for up to $150.000.00 USD in the USA if you can prove 'dilution'

Yeah, if they're doing it without your consent, they are technically violating your copyright. That bothers some folks, but like you said, it's free publicity. If you're explicitly okay with your stuff being shared, maybe even try and encourage it with a share and share alike license page on your site? I've never tried that myself since almost all my content is non-original and I don't really have the right to give it away as such. But it could work for you if what you're seeing happen is beneficial. |

- This would be copyright infringement. - You do need to federally register to get damages. - Dilution is a trademark issue and does not involve copyright. |

So if the shoe was on the other foot...and I found a great blog post that would compliment one of my sites, and pulled it over intact, I could be sued without the author's express permission? I see it like that, but want to make sure. Thanks for all the comments so far. Has anyone had a similar situation occur to them? |

Yeah, a site does this to me too. They pull my feeds and display parts of my posts on their site along with their ads. I found out they were based in Mountain View, California and their company name began with 'G'.

I realize that the blogosphere isn't like Reuters or AP...we're not paying for some broader permission to reprint/repurpose, even with all links and attribution intact. But the ability to link RSS directly into your site from other sources muddies the whole thing for me. What makes this different from the share/embed features on video sites like Youtube or Viddler? Thanks!
