Where do I submit my articles?

Do a Google search on "article directories" and you will get some pretty nice lists of directories to submit to.

You could also look up blogs or sites related to yours and offer webmasters and other bloggers your articles exclusively.

About linking. Ideally you want as many incoming links as possible pointing to each and every post on you blog. (Preferably one way backlinks from relevant sites with a high page rank - but hey, a link is a link, right?) I use articles to link back to different pages on my sites. One article would have a backlink to my home page. Other articles would link back to other pages.

How many backlinks will you need? Well, here is an oversimplified theory.

Let's say you want the # 1 spot in the search engines for the term "salt water pool systems".

Using Yahoo Site Explorer I found that the # 1 page in Google for this term has 84 links pointing to it. If you were to beat this you would need 85 links with the same quality (age, page rank, relevancy, and so on) pointing back to your 100 % seo optimized page.

Writing articles and submitting them to directories/webmasters is far from the only way to get links back to your pages and posts. You'll need to research different methods of link building and test the ones that appeal to you.
