So eBay bought Skype without securing the rights to the underlying technology.

I wonder what happened to the bright spark who negotiated that deal?

I wonder how many deals are made everyday, with the same nature. I don't want skype to go away, because I have just lately enjoyed its advantages.

Oprah endorses Skype. There is no way Skype will be closed down. Whoever wrote that article is mind-bended.

Skype has not worked since they produced V 4.0.

I reinstalled skype 3.8 because 4.0 just went
retarted on me. Anyone else have the same
issue?

Take Care,

Michael Silvester

I don't think that it will be closed down. Skype is massive.

Uh, guys, Joltid can shut down Skype remotely. They apparently built in code that allows them to do that.

Joltid never sold the rights to the underlying P2P code to eBay. That means that eBay jumped into the purchase of Skype without doing due diligence.

Don't worry for now. There is a court case pending in June, 2010, that will begin to resolve these issues.

Meanwhile, read this (especially the comments by Julian): Skype in Legal Fight with Joltid over P2P technology

This sounds kinda similar to the Blackberry - RMM (?- cant remember the correct name) issue about a year or two ago.

My guess is, with so many users and so much to lose, both sides will find a way to work it out.

Didn't something similar happen back a year or so ago with "Blackberries" and people freaked out???

I see someone else mentioned that. Teach me to open a window, go away from the computer and then come back and post without refreshing first. LOL

Hi Michael,

I personally haven't had those same problems with 4.0. I'm running it on Vista and XP on several machines.

What like Joltid will tell ebay to think of a number then add 8 'zero's'?

There are LOTS and LOTS of skype alternatives.

If one goes away, it's not that big of a deal really.

Almost every instant messaging client has the same features.
