Suburb Business Writing

I use to work for a popular and well known plumbing company receiving bookings etc.

Long story short, when we weren't on the phones, all call centre staff had to write articles. 300-500 words long.

We had a street directory with a list of all the suburbs in the different states here in Australia. We would write an article about how the plumbing company could help each suburb, and then we would cross that suburb off the list. They ended up covering every suburb 3 times over.

Here is my question though. When I try to find these articles on their blog or anywhere online, I could not find them anywhere!! So, what were they for? I am assuming it was for some type of SEO purpose, but can't see how it works.

Maybe they were just trying to keep us busy?

Would be great to hear what you think was the purpose of writing all these articles, and if it would be a good idea to do a similar strategy with my own business.

The thing about this type of writing is that there are certain common plumbing issues that are shared by all plumbers throughout the world.

The same applies to people who consume plumbing services.

The big difference with local SEO text is that you put in text that localizes the information.

For example, if you're dealing with a plumbing company from Brisbane, you might want to put the name of the district in Brisbane, and then put "Brisbane" and plumbing-related keywords, and then of course what kind of service it is.

Then you massage some of the keywords in the subheadings.

You have to pay attention to keyword density.

Also, the article must actually be useful for people in that part of Brisbane.

If you've done your research on your homework properly, it would be useful.

You are sharing information that is credible, information that can apply to all parts of the world, but is localized with the inclusion of certain keywords.

This is how local SEO works.

Keep in mind, however, that this type of content-based local SEO is showing some signs of wear and tear.

You have to balance it with the way local SEO is trending, which is towards co-citations.

You probably can't find those articles on the Internet because they were written by people who aren't writers and don't know the first thing about SEO. So I'm guessing the articles hurt just as much as they helped and the business eventually took them all down.

As far as your question, this is a very good idea IF (and that's a huge if) you take the time to create great content for each of the towns you service. That kind of writing is long and boring since you're talking about the same things over and over again, but it's certainly beneficial from a local standpoint.
