Promoting an affiliate program

What is the best way to promote your affiliate program. I have seen suggestions of affiliate directorys but not sure if this works or not. Can someone offer me suggestions. Thanks

    By promoting i would assume diving traffic to your site. The two main methods can be broken down into free traffic and paid traffic. Which is best would depend on how much you have in your budget for your online business.

    Generally paid traffic generates fast results but doesn't have long term effects while free traffic takes time to kick in (possibly a couple of months) before you start seeing significant results.

    Search around on the forums for these two types of traffic and you'll find a lot of threads talking about methods on doing it.

    the most efficient way to promote your affiliate program is by building a list

    on average people online need to be shown something 5 to 7 times before taking action on it, if people are on your list you can actually do that through your follow up series + you still have the ability to mail them any time you want in the future with other offers without having to generate new traffic again, and this builds up over time and so will your results.

    everytime you get someone to view your offer and they don't take action on it right away (which almost nobody does) you loose that person for ever, unless you get to capture their lead!

    if you really get this, you will start focusing on capturing leads and you can do that a million different ways, whether it is with paid traffic, free traffic (which is not really free because it costs lots of time) or even ofline methods.

    focus on capturing leads and providing value, if you succeed in doing that, there will be no problem getting people to act on your affiliate offer

      The best way, in my opinion, would be to:

      1. If you don't have conversion metrics then spend some time getting those together. Launch offers to your existing list, or if you don't have a list then run some ads, etc. to test your offers.

      2. Research who in your market are the current top sellers of things exactly like or similar to what you're trying to sell. Make a list of those companies/people and reach out to them directly. Share your conversion metrics with them so they'll trust you more.

      Getting good affiliates is basically the same thing as getting good customers. You have to sell them both on why they need to do business with you.
