Can you monetize a blogger blog or is that against the rules? If so, what ways can you monetize it? Can you promote affiliate products on it? Can you add a newsletter?

Yes you can monetize it and tons of ways and what can do with it, but...

Not sure what your end game or goal is with monetizing it, but if have your own products or services, would definitely skip that strategy. Basically, remember you are sending people away from your site, like if using it for ad space, adsense etc...

So you can make a few cents or a few bucks from sending traffic away from you or be wise about it, collect your own leads and sell your own stuff and make way more.

The monetizing would be a good play if got it built up, tons of traffic and were looking at selling it, but like said, me personally wouldn't send traffic away for a few cents or a few bucks, you'd be pushing major cash away.

All the questions you ask are the exact reason why many folks here will tell you to get your own domain and put a free WordPress blog theme on it then blog away. You will have full control and can do whatever you want!

Blogger can cut you off for no reason at all (and have done so for others) . . . and then where are you? You can buy a domain for less than $5 and hosting for the same per month so there really is no reason to go with Blogger.

I can surely attest to this fact. I had a couple of Blogger Blogs deleted overnight a few years back.
No explanation, no warning, no nothing.

It is best to get your own hosting and domain.

      Absolutely

Blogger, Tumblr, Wordpress, and various other web 2.0 sites that allow you to run a free blog can all be used to make a bit of money one way or another. Like others have mentioned, though, they can quickly shut you down without warning which makes building a business on free blogs a bit difficult. There are definitely some people that get by and manage to keep going for years without getting their blogs stripped from them, but most people that are promoting products or posting ads of any sort typically get their blog shut down after a while.

Like other people have already said - it's not too expensive to get going. With promo codes you can get a .com or .info for as cheap as 99 cents. And then you can use cheap shared hosting to get started. This way you have full control over everything.

You can monetize almost anything, but i wouldn't monetize a Blogger Blog ever again. It's best to switch to Wordpress. I can understand your hesitation, as Wordpress was foreign to me. But in honesty.... it's MUCH better than Blogger.

I'm actually already using Wordpress for my main website. I was just curious about blogger because of it's potential to go without a hosting provider and domain. That combined with using other people content (articles from directories), I thought it might be a quick way to get a blog up and making money. But it sounds like it's not worth it if they can shut your blog down at anytime.

I just came across someone's blogger blog and it looked like a lot of his articles were written by other people and obtained from article directories. He did have a link back to their author page, but it wasn't a hyper link, just in text form so you'd have to copy and paste it. And I figure most people probably wouldn't even bother doing that so that could work to keep them from clicking away.

So I figured if I could find some decent article on EzineArticles on a niche, I could do the same and add a link somewhere on some of the pages to some related Clickbank products. Possibly even add a newsletter. And drive traffic with Youtube and Facebook.

I don't know, maybe not a good idea.

It's better to go for a paid blog and paid hosting. Free blog can be shut down at anytime. I suggest WordPress- get your own blog and monetize it with adsence, Addynamo or direct advertorials.

I don't see any problem with blogger. But if you want to be safe for long term, you should register and domain name and get hosting.
    - You will have full control on the content.
    - There is no risk on your website being shut down.
    - If you do SEO, yes, I highly recommend that you pay for domain and hosting. If you ranked a blogger blog, the moment blogger shuts down your account, you will lose ranking and traffic.

Yes, I can monetize a Blogger blog.

You have to remember that a blog is not just a place where you stick ads on.

A blog is actually the home of your personal influence.

This is the most powerful revelation you can ever get when it comes to online publishing.

As you specialize in a particular niche and you know your stuff, people would be interested, people would flock to you, people would want to be coached by you, people would want to pay attention to your recommendations.

In other words, your influence is worth money.

Your blog is the home of your influence.

Do not let it go to waste by simply chasing AdSense or nickel and dime crap.

Focus on building up your expertise to a high enough level that people would pay for a custom newsletter or a webinar series.

    That is the bottom line.

Unfortunately, too many people are lazy.

They think that they only need to buy some sort of product and all this money would appear.

No, it does not work that way.

You have to work at becoming an expert.

The good news is as long as you are passionate and energized regarding a particular subject matter, you will become an expert sooner rather than later.

WARNING! Do not use Blogger blog for affiliate promotions, i found out the hard way, i had a couple of them deleted by Google who owns Blogger.com. Instead use it as an info blog and direct persons to your money site. Also i notice if you have adsense activated on your Blogger blog it will come under a lot of scrutiny too. Google wants to make all the money it can out of it own advertisements. So if you plan to put up affiliate banners on your Blogger blog, do not activate adsense on it to be on the safe side.

Absolutely! I had a blogger blog that was making me money on autopilot, selling Wartrol from Markethealth . . .

Until I woke up one morning and realised that they deleted it.

That was a sad moment, because the money was great, and I was ranking #3 on Google

that's when I decided to move to Wordpress.org permanently.

  • Yes there are at least 2 ways to monetize without a problem.

    1. Have a Sign up list, and market to them through e-mails.
    2. Have banners, affiliate links directly on the site.
