Instagram traffic: Truth or Crap?

I've been talking to this guy on another forum who swears that he gets 500 targeted visitors in the weight loss niche a day from Instagram traffic, and he did it in only two months. While I'm not saying it's impossible, I find it extremely hard to swallow.

Has anyone here had that kind of success with Instagram traffic, and if so, what kind of effort/ costs are we talking about to achieve such a thing? I've always looked at Instagram as Twitter's cute forgotten sister, OK to have, but not time-effective for serious marketing. If I'm wrong, someone school me.

    There was a wso I brought saying that you could get thousands of targeted visitors from imgur.

    I got a bunch of visitors and downvotes...

    Well.....the traffic wasn't so targeted after all...

    Instagram is good for weight loss / diet. There's a few ways you could do it:

    - Grow a bunch of instagram accounts simultaneously
    - use paid shoutouts from authority accounts
    - Figure out a way to make your posts / accounts viral

    Instagram can definitely generate some high quality traffic. However only if you do it correctly. Because it's a social media image posting platform, you need to focus on one specific niche and target that only meaning be active posting picture on your subjects only. After you grow and trade shout outs with others at around 100k Followers good traffic can be poured in and generate some good $$. Many niche has been taken however its never late to start.

    Instagram definitely has a huge potential, follow your passion and inspire others.

      How would you target those looking to lose weight on instagram? I have paid for shoutouts but even then i'd get only about 100 new followers each time and I have a really inspiring story to share.

      It seems maybe i'm paying the wrong pages for shoutouts.

    I personally don't use instagram for business BUT I can see that being accurate since a great photo can do more than a great blog. There are some days that a single photo will earn me 50+ clicks from Google, so I'm sure Instgram has even more pull if that's what you are into.
