How do you reply to these questions?

Greetings,

I am aware that web developers will have different answers to these questions but I am eager to hear your answers on these.

For example, a client contacted you and he said he has old websites. Then he asked you how can you improve these sites?

What kind of answers that could convince this client that he should pick you to work on these sites?

What are the things that need to be done to make the site look modern?

Your answers will be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
G.B.

Honestly, I hope that nobody gives you any straight answers since this can only be one thing- you trying to take advantage of a customer. If you don't know yourself what a website would need to generate more traffic or look more modern, then you shouldn't be pitching clients in the first place.

      Thanks for your honest response.

Basically, these are part of the things I am going to tell the client.

We need to implement these things:

articles in different sections on the page)
      b. Similar Keywords on the page

      c. HTML Mark-up ( css and javascript is not loaded externally
      d. HTML and Javascript Codes are minified/minimize
(you can use jscompress.com - copy the scripts, paste the code and hit compressed)
      e. Images - Alt Tags, Filenames of images contains the keywords, can also city and state
      f. The Use of H1 or Header Tags
      g. Check if the site has both xml sitemap and the robots.txt
(Set in the root folder of the domain - find the domain and type robots.txt)
(Copy the sitemap location/url and open in your browser to check if the sitemap is valid)
      h. Check if there's no flash content in the page (use swf to view if there's any)
      i. Check if there's any richsnippets or schema
      (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets and paste the URL
and put it inside the box and select preview)
      j. Check if the site have google analytics
(View the page source and search for "analytics" or UA)
      k. Check if the site have google webmaster and bing webmaster
      (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home and paste the URL)
      l. Check to make sure there's no domain issues
      m. Check if the site has a blog
      n. Check for mobile friendliness
(Mobile-Friendly Test paste the URL for quick test)
      o. Check for the social links (see for update)
      p. Check if there's no duplicate content from the pages
      q. Check for any broken links (download home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html paste the url
      and for any broken links
      r. Check the speed test (PageSpeed Insights
paste the url then select "analyze" and see somesuggestions on how to fix)
      s. Check the server speed or the website speed test
(tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ paste the url then select "test now")

However, my fellow warriors, if you can share your thoughts, I would truly appreciate that.

I welcome opinions but as much as we can, let's not jump into conclusions right away.

I understand that you have all the rights to say whatever you want.

Simple. Make the site dynamic. Change the appearance to be more colour friendly, engage the visitors - if there are any, and manage the mailbox. Charge good money for this.

The primary goal is make the site user-friendly and mobile-friendly. There’s nothing more frustrating than landing on a website that’s difficult to navigate. Everything should be intuitive, not overly complicated and cluttered. Visitors become frustrated, leaving the site with no likelihood of return.

For modern Internet marketers, it is vital that a website be geared toward satisfying consumer expectations for engaging, high-quality content and functionality.

You can "cure" almost all your issues with the old site by installing a professional seo-friendly WordPress theme. The other things are achievable by using specialized WP plugins... there are plenty.

Definitely make it responsive so it an cater to as many people as possible. Although not a necessity you may want to offer your client a video for their website. A simple 1 minute explainer whiteboard or cartoon video can help improve conversions a lot and it can be outsourced relatively cheap from places like Fiverr.

The best way to answer that question is to simply highlight your track record.

You have to understand that when it comes to graphic design, customers are looking for one thing and one thing alone: results.

They are looking for great-looking designs, but more importantly they're looking for results.

Most of buyers of this type of service know that a design may look good and it may be pretty, but at the end of the day it might not result in conversions.

If you want to make money off the Internet, the name of the game is conversions.

This why it's really a good idea for you to show off your track record.

Make sure you have a solid portfolio.

If I were you, I'd I take the extra step of stepping through the prospect through the design process that you use to create type designs.

These are designs that are engineered from the ground up to maximize sales conversions.

Otherwise, it's too easy for your company to be overlooked.

Let's face it, there are tons of web developers out there.

We're not just talking of web developers from the United States and Canada, but also from all four corners of the globe like India, the Philippines, Bangladesh. . . You name it.

If you want to be truly competitive, you have to have a solid portfolio.

Or you have to step the prospect through your design process and explain how your process can get them what they looking, which is of course sales and conversions.
