What Email Program Do You Use?

by BJ Min

hi,

i currently use gmail for email because it's easier
to use than most email programs...

but having a gmail name for my business makes
it look LESS professional...

what email program do you use IF you
have your domain name for your email address?

is there a program that makes it easier to use?
i heard microsoft outlook is popular which i have
used before...but is there any other ones out there
that are easy to use just like gmail?

thanks
BJ

i heard there was a gmail program where you pay 50 bucks a year and it allows you to have your domain name be your email address (plus more options using gmail)...

Unless something has changed that is NOT the case.

We have one domain that uses the gmail servers for all of our email. We set up all of the different email accounts for that domain and then pointed the nameservers to Gmail. I know there were a couple of other little tweeks that had to be done but IT took care of that.

The University of Arizona uses Gmail for all of the student and faculty email accounts and services as well. I'd suggest you look around some more to find more info on using Gmail for your business.

And for those of you that are using Gmail for your business here's how to take out the "On Behalf of" that Gmail uses when sending an email from one of your other addresses. http://tech.passionvaibhav.com/remov...t-using-gmail/

      And BTW, Thunderbird IS great!

Thunderbird, which I also use to grab some of my Gmail accounts. I use it for all of my domain accounts plus my ISP accounts. Very easy to setup for multiple accounts and easy to organize.

I also use gmail and also forward my domains to it. I like the flexibility and it is much easier to manage.

Checkout the Google Apps site for more info on using your own domain with gmail.

    1) how do you forward your email account to gmail?
do you have to go to your webhost OR gmail to do that?

    2) also after you do the above (forward your email account to gmail)...if you REPLY back from your gmail (does it say gmail.com OR does it say your domain name)?

There's a simple way to read and reply to emails going to your own domain from gmail, without the person on the other end knowing you are using gmail.

      Here's how:
      1. Click on "Settings" in the top-right corner.
      2. Then click on the "Accounts" tab.
      3. Click on the link that says "Add another email address you own".
      4. Follow the instructions to set it up.
You may need to find some settings in your web hosting cpanel, but it's all pretty straightforward. I have many different email addresses across many domains, but all the email is funnelled into my one main gmail account.

having free email account like yahoo, gmail, aol, etc. on you business email address is really not a professional looking. I myself has auto ignore when I see emails coming for these addresses.

I believe that most webhost offer 1 free mail box for your domain, I have one free from Godaddy. Its good for answering official inquiries.

I totally agree with Austin - if you're serious about IM you need to treat this as a business. So you should use an email based on your domain.

And as CDarklock suggests, you can then forward all your emails to gmail or other services to take advantage of portability, spam filtering, etc.

As for reading emails, I use both the web based client my host provides and Thunderbird.

    best,

    Hi,

I Prefer to use microsoft Outlook for my mails as it is easy to use, easy to set up. Good searching features. Also has ability to check for the spam mails and viruses.

Good interactive look, save the replies and send them when you want...

    A quick question about gmail:

I wanted to make all my email web-based a few months ago, so I setup all my email accounts (6 or 7 of them) to be forwarded to gmail. But when you send someone an email from *any* of those accounts, it tells the person who gets the email which main gmail account the email is linked to (I think this is the case, anyway).

That isn't too good when you have your personal email plus a couple of email addresses in different markets. Is there a fix for this? Or am I missing something here?

I also forward mail from various domain names to Gmail, then collect it from there using Eudora.

I've been using Eudora for ages. Tried Thunderbird a few times, but always ended up going back to Eudora. In over 10 years of heavy use, it's NEVER crashed or let me down.
