"Motivation". Is it a niche or a market?

The "picking up niche" process really bothers me. I find it hard if you ask me. Because most of the time when i find a one, people say to me it's not a niche, it's a market. And you should narrow it down. But when i think if i narrowed it, i would have just ONE affiliate product to promote. Because it's very very VERY specific!

Which leads me to my main question. I found out that i'm interested in the Motivational stuff. But i still confused, does it a niche or a market? should i join the motivation world, or it's not a "niche", and i should be more specific?

NOTE: I'm going to build an email list.

I would say motivation is a niche within the rather large self-help market. There are plenty of products in the self help market as a whole, as well as in the motivation niche.

This niche works well with productivity, goal setting and personal growth niches, so there's potential for cross-selling as well.

    Hope this helps.

Motivation is a topic, neither a niche or a market.

    People don`t buy motivation.

      It isn't a profitable one?

Motivation is something more along the line of the self-improvement niche. You would need to narrow down to a specific area your audience needs motivation and inspiration in.

Once you discover which area to target it would be best to align your strengths on getting your "motivational message" out there aligned with your particular gift. For example, if you have good orator skills, then speak. If you have good writing skills, then write.

You're essentially referring to the self-help market it looks like.

And yes, the market is absolutely extraordinary.

Google "self help gurus", some of them are worth tens, and yes hundreds of millions.

Motivation IS a niche, the more important question is, how BIG is that market.

I've operated in various parts of the self improvement/self-help market for years now, it CAN be lucrative, but is also filled with traps.

With motivation, my advice is to focus on a desired outcome/transformation instead (Ex. achieve goals, stop procrastination, improve relationships, etc...) and weave motivation in as part of the SOLUTION rather than the targeted niche itself.

Are there a subset of people out there who are trying to reach transformation X that have come to the realization they need Motivation - yes, but it is far fewer than the much larger audience who are still trying to find the formula for X - instead of targeting just Motivation, target the larger audience who want to achieve X or Y.

Motivation morphed from a niche of the self-improvement market. Then it grew into a market. Now it's a mega-industry. Heck, motivational speaking alone has grown into an industry now. For example ...The Motivational Speaker Industry --CBS News

Which shows that today's successful niches ... could quickly grow into tomorrows markets or even industries. And blessed is the person whose on the front end of those niches.

Now "Motivation" includes tons of lucrative niches (and growing). For example ...
      • Athletes who want to motivate themselves.
      • Coaches who want to motivate athletes.
      • Managers who want to motivate supervisors.
      • Supervisors who want to motivate workers.
      • Teachers/professors who want to motivate students.
      • Parents who want to motivate their kids.
      • Wives who want to motivate their husbands
      and
      • Men who want to motivate women (the pickup).
Plus many more examples and growing!

But I see, hear and feel your dilemma. You're looking to sell motivational products as an affiliate. So, you're mostly talking about general "Rah, Rah" motivational books, programs and videos to help people get pumped up in a general sense.

That's about the only thing the bulk of affiliate programs cover as far as motivation that I've seen.

Other than general, sales or management motivation "affiliate programs" I'm not even sure if you can drill down that much. At least those are the most successful affiliate programs dealing with motivation at this time.

You got my dilemma, but you still didn't give the solution.

The examples you mentioned doesn't have any affiliate product to promote.. All of the motivation products are general and not specific. So, it's dangerous to enter the motivation in general? I should search for another niche?

Ah, actually there is no solution, par se. If you were creating your own motivational product you could drill down or get more specific about your niche. But if you're looking for an affiliate program there's not much to choose from. Most of the successful ones only deal with general motivation subjects or sales and management type motivational subjects at best.

You'd maybe have to offer a back-end niche product or service of your own to compliment it. Or as you said choose another market that you can drill down further with that doesn't have so much competition. Other than the Money Making Opportunities sector, the Motivational sector is probably the second most competitive area you can tackle especially if you're new at it.
