I know that videos are very popular on landing pages and web sites in general now to provide an overall introduction to a service or product. However, there are a lot of people (like me) who do not have the patience to sit through a video when we don't know yet whether or not we're interested. I just came across a web site that has a very nice way of giving the non-video people a quick introduction, and it was extremely effective for me. Go to The Creative RipCard, The Perforated Business Card, Generate More Referrals, More Leads, More Customers, Better Advertising, Rip Card and instead of watching the video, click on the illustration where it says, "Click the image to Enlarge." This takes just half a minute to read/look through, it's enjoyable, creative and clear. I love this and wish more people would accommodate non-video watchers in this way or some other way. It's certainly more fun that reading a dry FAQ or How It Works page. Marcia Yudkin P.S. I have no connection with ripcard.com. |

Hi Marcia, I love it. This can be a very practical way to keep the interest of those who don't (won't) sit through a video presentation. Like everything else, it would have to be tested thoroughly to see how it affects overall conversions. Thanks for posting this. |

Marcia, I agree that this is a good approach, although the site in general looks like a mess. I see a lot of people using (and misusing) video just because "it's the thing to do". Having said that, if this were my website I would have done something similar using Flash. PDF opens in a new window and not everyone has it set up properly. You can do attractive and fast-loading, multi-media presentations in flash that play right on the page. Or you could put it in a "grey box" to set it off and frame it. That can be real effective. Video is hyped too much, in my opinion. |

I believe more people have their pdf display working than have Flash working - but that's just a suspicion. Marcia | |

I agree the site is a mess, but the quick pdf presentation explains the product perfectly. Maybe the prersentation itself should be the site. |

I know most of the users out there don't mind watching videos, but there is that percentage of people who find it annoying to click on every video ad that pops up. For those, I agree, this is great. It very effectively showed what their project was about in a cute way. Quickly grabbed my attention as well. I wish more people would come up with creative and out of the box ideas like that. Everything is starting to become routine. Thanks for sharing! |
