Getting traffic to a niche blog

Hey Warriors,

I would love to know your advice on traffic generation for my niche blog. I am not sure I can post the link here so I'll describe it: it's focused on how to make money online with writing, teaching people how to get more clients, where to get them, building a client database, raising rates, writing faster and/or better an so on. I already have a couple of posts ready to be uploaded and will do so in the next couple of days.

Now the problem, the same one everyone who ever started a blog had: traffic!

Here's what I've done so far:

- Social media: created accounts and started sharing articles and links to interesting posts in my niche. I am using Twitter and Facebook for now, but hoping to write down a plan for Instagram this week. I read a lot about this topic so I find great articles from time to time
- SEO'd Content: I'm a writer myself and am familiar with SEO content optimization so I intend to build natural contextual backlinks to these posts to rank higher and hopefully bring organic traffic
- Guest Posting: already found a couple of blogs that accept guest posts and will try to write for them. Great for targeted traffic plus getting the linking juice
- Forum/Answers Traffic: I write on Quora from time to time, great website!

It would be great if you could add your two cents on other things I could do to bring more traffic. All help is appreciated

Cheers
Dan

Here's the good news, Dan. If you're doing everything you described and doing them well (i.e. not spamming and providing helpful content), it sure seems like you're doing a lot of things right.

    A few questions I have:
How much traffic are you currently seeing?
How many posts do you currently have?

You may want to choose to target your further posts to certain keywords around your overall niche. For instance, if it is making money online, you might want to do a more specific post about making money online with WordPress (just an idea... I did no keyword research to see if it is even worth writing)

Most importantly keep at it for a few months. Traffic can take a while to build as search engines index your site and you continue to climb the ranks.

Social Media: remember to like other pages and interact with your followers! Use little trick to catch the eye for example post question, ofer littel gift, give some news.

If you want to improve visitors to your site invest some money in a PPC campaign as facebook ads or AdWords!

    Good Work!

Write about hot topics - things people are actively searching for. Then optimize the posts for SEO.

Blogging is supposed to be about passion, but make sure that you're writing to appeal to the passion of your readers. They're the ones who are searching, remember?

    Hey there Dan!

Way to go man! .. you are definitely on the right path!

Let me add, with Social Media, you shouldn't be sharing your links right away. People do not really like that. And if you track how many visitors you are getting from your social networks, it is probably low to nothing.

With social networks is all about true VALUE and growing the Network as big as possible. You should be using Social Networks to build up a following, and once your following is getting big, only then you can start to share links to your blog posts.

Throwing your links left and right in social networks, without taking time to share value first, is considered as spamming by most people. If you are going to build traffic from your social networks, do it right!

And this is what I do, myself, with Facebook, for example. I took the time to build a big following and network, and not I can share my valuable blog posts there and get visitors fast. But it is a long process to get to that point, this is why the sooner you start building up your following in social networks, the better!

Another tip I will give you, when it comes to building a successful blog online, is to implement the 80/20 rule. Spend 20% of your time creating very high quality blog posts, and 80% of your time marketing the heck out of the blog posts you already have.

If you are following the advice that you must blog daily to build a blog, that is bad advice, actually. You do not have to be publishing content left and right to build a successful blog online. I have met many popular and successful bloggers online who said they built their blogs with about 2 to 4 blog posts a month!!

Of course, you have to make sure you share very good blog posts. The more valuable and EPIC your blog posts, the better. And these type of blog posts take days to come together. So, you can take your time with them, and market like a maniac in the meantime.

Just think about this .... if 10 or 50 people benefited tremendously from one of your blog posts, chances are there are 10,000 to 50,000 other people who can benefit from that same blog post!!! .. you just need to reach out to them! ... you get what I mean?

And if you want the search engines to send you a lot of organic traffic, you HAVE TO truly care about people. Realize, that Google's main priority is THEIR users!

So, if you please the search engine user, then the search engine will please your site. As simple as that brotha!

I don't think many people realize this. But this is who you get free traffic from Google, even without any backlinks!

If you just take the time to take good care of the USER EXPERIENCE, Google will take good care of you.

But, it all starts with TRAFFIC. Right!

This is why you should invest in your internet marketing education. Learn the many internet marketing strategies you can implement. And just spend more time marketing than creating more and more content for your blog. If your current blog posts are not getting at least a few thousand readers every month, why should you keep creating more content? ... does it even make sense? ...

Think about all of this and create your own daily action plan accordingly!

If you do some deep research about successful bloggers, and how they have built their blogs, you will find out they promoted waaaay more than they created content. I have read about one guy, actually, that built his blog by publishing one or two blog posts a month and the rest of his time he spent it guest posting all over!

Guest posting alone works very well, if you do it right!

Keep up the great work man!

This is jut my 2 cents on blogging, and Im sure you will make it happen!

Wow! As someone who is new to blogging, thanks for sharing your 2 cents. This was a real eye opener for me. I have been spending pretty much all of my time creating the best content that I can and have been doing very little promoting, not that I was planning on keeping it that way.

My plan was to promote once I have gotten atleast a few posts pre-written and like 2 months worth of pre-written emails with an autoresponder (I've never used an autoresponder or built an email list before) so that I can use those 2 months to promote the hell out of my site, but now I am starting to think I am going about everything wrong.....what you say makes a lot of sense....If no one is coming to my site, then what is the point of cranking out more and more content. DUH! I need to start letting people know about my site NOW. Thanks for sharing your thoughts man!

Got it! So I should share links to useful content from other sources, proven content that went viral already and that delivers great info, is that it?

I was think of creating like a series where I would deliver people one pro tip about freelance writing a day (with an image). Something like "raise your rates when you have too much work" or "always follow up with clients for more work", you know, simple stuff to help people. Would that be a good idea? (technically it is my content, hence the question)

Yes, I do realize this and will incorporate it as a strategy. I want to get at least 5-10 posts up for credibility but after that I will probably post once a week. It takes some time to write an epic blog post

This is actually the route I want to take, one blog post a week and then 2-3 guest posts a week (If I can get that many opportunities). Builds links back to my site and puts my content and writing in front of targeted traffic.

Thanks so much for all your help man, appreciate it

      Cheers
