Data Entry + Transcription Jobs

Anyone have any success with these part-time? I've just started using elance and getafreelancer and so far have one job accepted and completed.

Has anyone been able to earn a part-time income using these methods? (Data Entry and Transcription)

Discuss away your successes and any tips to help others (including me! )

Well what I personally did, that landed me my first job, is chose some jobs (3 for elance and 15 for getafreelancer) that interested me in the fields of data entry and transcription (a few telesales/marketing jobs) and offered the lowest amount of money they could pay for that job. I then posted a paragraph with my proposal/job app. that stated my qualifications. So far, I've only landed one job but it's only been one day and I've already earned $16.00. Anyone else have any tips? Is it even possible to earn a part-time income with elance or getafreelancer?

Haha! You bring up a good point. Let's just say it's my little secret.

It may not be a good idea to put all of your eggs in one basket but if one of my baskets provided financial freedom with a 10 hour work week and my other basket provided $16 a day for data entry work, I'd start shopping for another basket.

That is a silly response. And $16 for a days work IS pretty bad! If it were simple, didn't require being quick, and could be done anywhere, I MIGHT consider it for as little as say $40/day. But that would certainly not be a real job. For THAT, I figure about $120+/day that is $31200, or roughly about what the average American is paid. Of course, I get more than that now.

Like what others have done in the past, maybe he should copy and paste your picture, post it on a more expensive network and see what happens. Since your opinion must always reign.

Haha that's a good point too. But I did mention that I literally just began data entry and transcription yesterday so I'm just testing to see where this will take me. Which is why I posted the thread in the first place to ask if it was worth my time.

I did data entry while I was at college, but I don't think Elance or GetAFreelancer are the way to go. If you're good at this, it might be worth marketing yourself as a virtual assistant / virtual secretary?

There are directories you can enrol on (have a Google) where you can list what you can do / time it takes to do it and sit tests to prove it, kind of like all the "upload your CV" job sites but targeted toward virtual assistants. It can be handy - I did three hours a day as a VA while at college, $10/hour for a company I found with an online VA directory.

It is possible, but not sure if just using Elance or GAF would be beneficial.

    Hi James,

I worked with GAF, and Elance on and off for ten years and I have made some good money with them. Unfortunately I got too much work and ended up with a heart attack so now I am trying IM instead (thought it would be less stressful lol).

If you want to PM me I am happy to offer some advice - I have a product on it (getting work through these sites) which is why I am not putting the info in this post - because i know that is something that is not done (I am not trying to promote my products I know that is not allowed )- I am not asking you to buy the product, I am happy to pass on the info for free, but if you can let me know the things you are having problems with (finding the best jobs to bid on, how to write proposals, and things like that) I am happy to answer questions for you and any other person who is interested.

I might not be able to make more than ten bucks as an IM but I was making between regularly $500 plus per week as a freelancer (writing and transcription).

    Best wishes
    Lisa

I have read yesterday that elance and odesk are soon going to merge to provide a one big company, so I guess it can be a great opportunities for job seeker to unite under one place.

Crazy post. No luck with data entry/transcription/work from home jobs. Selling something has always made me more profitable than these "online jobs" sites and programs.

Never tried it. Huge competition here. Few weeks ago I was browsing oDesk Data Entry jobs and saw about 500 people bid on a data entry project.

Yes !!! there is huge competition in this field and number of work from home scams. You need to find out the legitimate company first and then commence the work.
