Two niches in one blog or two blogs separate?

Hi, if you can create a blog in two niches which are fairly related to each other, would you create one blog and write about both niches or would you create separate blogs for two niches?

Benefits of creating one blog would be more content on the website, monetisation options from both niches, marketing just one website everywhere.

Negatives for creating one blog could be since the website is not any niche specific, the traffic may not be super targeted which may result in lower conversion rates and hence frustrations ( greater loss than loss of money).

The pros and cons could be reversed in the case of creating two separate blogs.

What do you suggest...with reasons? And hopefully people who are running their blogs could give better answer so I request not to reply just for the sake of replying, thanks for understanding.

My suggestion would be to create two separate blogs. This would create more distinction thus result in better conversions. The more distinct you can be the better. Plus, you could always link the blogs together in some ways via relevant keyword links inside of articles, banners etc since as you mention the niches are fairly close in relation.

Personally I build tightly targeted niche blogs so I always cater for one topic or product so would sway towards two separate blogs before even reading your post .

From your post I got that you will be building a niche blog and will be writing and targeting a specific audience so even after reading your post, I would still opt for 2 blogs, purely because I would want all of my content to be specific to my whole audience.

On the flip side, if you were building an authority blog and looking to build a brand and loyal readers, I would go with 1 blog for the reasons you have mentioned.

    Hope this helped Camohit

You should create one blog for every niche you're in. The reason is because of how the search engines work. When you create a blog around one niche, the traffic will be more targeted since you'll be writing reviews and articles about things going on in that particular niche. Also, when you are first starting out, creating them one at a time will allow you to figure out what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong, so you can improve upon those things with your next blog.

I would definitely create two separate blogs. Even if one is a sub-niche of the other. It allows you to focus and always be 100% on target with your content. I once had a blog in a broad niche. Then I noticed that there was a sub-niche that lots of people were interested in within my niche. So I created a second blog on that sub-niche. That second blog became more popular than the first. I got more traffic and it was easier to monetize.

I disagree with the others- roll with one blog if they're closely related like you said AND they go together naturally.

Everyone says to find a highly specific, tiny little niche to dominate and that sounds great on paper, but producing blogs for it is another thing entirely. So you're better off making the blog about a fairly larger category and then break it down for your sub-niche's....and it really doesn't matter if you keep it balanced out or not. For example, you can have 10 posts on topic A, 8 on topic B and 1 each on C, D, E and F...and that's perfectly fine as long as everything is somewhat related.

At the end of the day though, you need to look at which route would allow you to pump out more content. If you can plan out 200 articles for topic A over the next 3-5 years....then maybe split the blogs up. If not though, then keep them together as one.

How close are the two topics?

If I wanted to blog about say, iPhones and Android phones for example, I'd keep those on two separate blogs.

If I wanted to blog about iPhones and iPads, those would go much better together and could work well under one authority blog.

Remember that a blog without readers is worthless, two blogs will require twice as much marketing among a host of other problems.

It's kind of hard to give specific advice without knowing the two topics so feel free to PM me if you want additional information / insight.

It really depends on how big the niches are, if they are typically very big usually a site to their own, otherwise I know lots of people who just write about anything and can tons of traffic, at the end of the day it really depends on what your doing, i.e if its adsense then whatever, but if you are trying to sell say a dog book, keeping it niche specific is absolute.

Thanks a lot for your time and opinion.

I read that the majority of suggestions are towards creating separate blogs but I am inclined to running one blog for both and brainstorming ways to help people in variety of ways through that one website.

This might not allow me to create an expert like image in one particular niche but it would allow me to create an image of being a person who love to help which is what my whole idea is while creating the website.

If I break it into two separate website, my energy would be divided and I might not be able to be as effective in fulfilling my objective.

I think the picture is clear now, thanks for the replies. Wish you luck!
