craigslist is toast. Facebook Marketplace

Has anyone checked out the new Facebook Marketplace yet?

Since Facebook forces a real identity, it's gonna make it hard to spam and very difficult to defraud.

I'm diggin' it already.

I've not used the marketplace, but I've used the PPC ads quite a bit. I've found it really depends on the niche you're going after...haven't had much success with promoting e-products (affiliate and my own products) through FB ppc, but I have had great results promoting my web design / marketing services to specific niches on FB.

Are you promoting specific products through the marketplace? I'll have to go check it out a bit more in depth...

    It's been out a month or two...but I haven't played that one yet..still on a different campaign :-(

I'm an ad enthusiast so I try to get as much as I can on what's new and hot. in fact with the techniques I do I get around 30k hits per month out of them.

After I finish my current campaign I'll check facebook marketplace and see how much it will improve my traffic arsenal.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I'm not promoting anything just yet because I'm still checking it out. It's only been released for a couple days IIRC.

The thing I like about it is that it is tied to your FB identity and it's local to your geographic area network by default. You can obviously change this.

    It's free, of course.

Because it's tied to your identity, it's going to sledgehammer the spammers, which has been craigslist's downfall from two perspectives: 1) a lot of people have the perception that it's scam central, so usage is falling off & 2) the community over moderates and trashes perfectly legit ads - pissing off the ad poster.

Between these two issues, it's a pain in the arse to actually do anything on a sustained basis without constantly monitoring your ads.

I wasn't aware of this new feature. Thanks for sharing. I have a property rental customer that will be interested in this. They use craigslist a bunch but are always looking for new sources of traffic.

You are right on about this Michael. I still use the service to hire outsourcing but it often takes me 5 or 6 writing attempts to make an ad stick around for longer than a 1/2 hour. Soooo aggravating.

Craigslist is toast? Not at all, my friend. I'm regularly pulling 20-30 sales a day from there and it's showing a strong upward trend y/y.

Well as far as making your ads stick, outsource the posting to someone who will only charge you for every post that successfully survives 24 hours. I've got a handful of guys like this. That or change your method... ewhoring for instance has a lower lifespan than job leads... (I don't recommend anyone do ewhoring not just for that, but c'mon.. it's FILTHY).
