More specifically, I need to find beat/drums software to put in some flash stuff I am creating for a site. I know that there are lots of "kits" you can get to plugin to midi programs, but I am looking for a stand alone program that comes with its own drum samples and allows you to create and export beats with those samples. Or at least point me to a forum that might have this kind of info. Thanks. -joel |

You'd be in good hands with Sony Software then. Just check out what Sony has to offer Acid in particular.

I agree with Josh & tj... Sony Acid is a very cool piece of software! That, and Ableton Live is really good too. Both come with tons of loops. However, if all you want to do is find some drum loops to use, you don't need to buy any software for that. There are tons of sites on the web where you can download drum samples for free. Just Google "free drum samples". Here's one of the better sites... Free Acid Music Loops Beats Audio Samples Sounds FX for garageband, magix, reason, fruity loops, ableton, pro tools When you find a sample you like, you can use any free audio editor (like Audacity or Kristal) to edit the sample to the exact length you need, and do fades, etc. |

My partner creates music using the PC and he recommends Reason which is very easy to use (so he says) and comes with plenty of beats and there's lots of free ones to download as well or..... Reaper which can be fully tested for free (only 4.3 mb) and he says is superb or... Energy XT which he also says is really good (2.5mb) Hope this helps. If you need any more info he says he's happy to help |

I have used some of these loop programs, and they are good, but what I am looking for is a program where I can take individual drum sounds and build a beat. These programs (FL, Acid, etc.) let you to mix different loops and beats together to create compilations. I am looking for a program that will allow me to create a drum/beat track from scratch. -joel |

What you are asking for is available in FruityLoops... look check out this mini song I made for Newgrounds: My DnB song. That was made with a mixture of individual sounds (drum, snare, cymbals etc.) and loops (not everything in FruityLoops has to be or be made with a loop). Like I said, if you just want some loops I can make yo usome for free, I like making music ^^. -Aidan.

Aiden is correct. I have Fruity Loops and it rocks! You can add your own beats and create really great techno tracks or otherwise loop your own beats. I also use Adobe Audition, where you can import a beat track sample and add other multiple samples to create a full track beat demo. Audition is much easier to use and has great effects that include reverb, normalization, etc. Too many to list.

I DL'd a trial of FL. I couldn't figure out where anything was on that thing. Does it come with drum samples to make your own kit, or do you have to add that in from another source? I am looking for more organic drum samples. I want to stay away from the techno stuff. -joel |

Joel try checking out Ejay software like Dance Ejay. It's pretty basic but good for basic stuff too. Just do a search on Amazon for ejay and you will find it for cheap. It has been around for a bit but is good for basic stuff like you might be looking for and it is easy to use. |

Well I have spent a few more hours playing with FL studio, and I am impressed. I figured out how to create beats from scratch. Some of that other software looks good, but I can actually get my hands on this program before I buy. It's only $99 for the regular edition. There are 2 versions that are much more expensive, but I can't tell what is worth the extra $100 or $200 for the producer or the XXL versions. Anyone know? -joel |

Thanks for the offer Aidenkay, but I got beats stuck in my head that I need to get out and do something with. The best would be to be able to get a nice roland e-drum kit, but I don't have a couple thousand to throw around right now. -joel

I got a $3.99 drum machine app for my android phone called Electro Drum, and it has been lots of fun. You can record patterns, songs, and upload to your computer from your phone.
