News Stories as Blog Material

Hi,

I want to add fresh content to my Blog daily if possible and I was wondering how you can use daily news stories in your niche and if you can post them to your Blog and whether or not this is legal?

If for instance I had a Blog about "Dog Training" and I found a relevant story (this is just an example!):

http://www.examiner.com/x-9149-Las-Vegas-Therapy-Dogs-Examiner~y2009m8d1-PETCO-Warm-Springs-has-expanded-their-schedule-of-FREE-dog-training-seminars

Could I use both the text and image in any news story on my Blog as long as I post a link to the source?

If I had to ask permission from every news source I wanted to use, it wouldn't be news by the time I got permission!

I would like to take as many interesting news stories as I can find and add them to my Blog on a daily basis for fresh content.

Is there a best practise for this?

Thanks!

No. No. No. And, for good measure, no.

Is there a best practise for this?
While pet adoption is encouraged, a lesser known fact is that many adopted pets are returned--sometimes even abandoned!--because their adoptive families found them difficult. Often, the difficulties are easily remedied with a little training, which is why PETCO is adding additional days of free dog training sessions. Read the full story here.
In other words, you summarize the story in your own words, adding your own details and insight and then link to the source. You don't use their original text or images.

You do have to be careful with quoting and even summarizing because, with declining revenues, many newspapers are getting upset with other sites quoting them or even linking to them. The old media hasn't caught up with new media.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

      Hi Dan,
I'll take that as a No then
Seriously, thanks for your detailed response - I really appreciate it!
      All the best,

Wtf? Why would they be against you linking to them?

Some of them are not among the brightest crayons in the box.

    Hi Derrick,

I would see if the site has a Syndication source, and if so email them. Some news sources don't allow or promote syndication, some do. It all depends on the legal status of the story and if it is on the 'wire' for bigger publications. As Dan alluded to some news sources, aren't web savyy, some are - finding the right ones is fun

Thanks Steve - just signed up for your "News Content Pro" which I hope to use in tandem with Dan's suggestion and create plenty of content!
      All the best,
      Derrick

    Hi Derrick -

We are adding some more features over the next few weeks that should really help out automation wise. I can't speak for all news content, but certainly there is a lot out there, and Jays reference to posting RSS stuff isn't a bad start.

We ended up creating Newscontent (it wasn't pro then!) so we had relevant stuff to add to our emails and websites etc, where we weren't breaking copyright etc.
