I'm currently using a Baby account over at host gator for my current niche websites. For those of you that don't have Hostgator, a Baby account is one of the basic hosting packages that features unlimited bandwidth, Unlimited disk space and unlimited add-on domains. What I can't seem to figure out is why my primary domain was so much easier to rank than my add-on domains. The weird part about it is that my primary domain had a much more competitive keyword yet, I was still able to get on page one of Google within just a few weeks. With my add-on domains, I'm struggling to get them on the first five pages of Google with just medium to low competition keywords. As far as SEO goes, I have the primary keyword in the title of all my domains and the on page and off page SEO was done the same for all domains. I remember reading somewhere that using a reseller account makes it a lot easier to rank domains. Maybe because each domain would have its own individual IP? So basically I'm just wondering if Google shows more love to domains that have individual ip addresses other than domains that are just add ons to your primary domain? Geez, I hope this makes sense, as you can see I'm not too good at explaining all this technical stuff. If you have any ideas or suggestions please feel free to chime in. Thanks, Devin |

I have read, but not verified through testing, that more than add on domains that are about the same topic will get lower ranking. PM me as I am doing this same thing. for paying clients I get them class c licenses |

| I really have no idea what c class licenses are about, I was just wondering if getting a reseller is worth it just for SEO purposes.

The type of hosting account doesn't make a difference. A HostGator reseller's account domains will be on the same Class C IP in most cases. You'll only get guaranteed different Class C's if you buy SEOHosting from HostGator or buy additional IP addresses. I'd suggest that you look at other reasons as to why your add-ons aren't ranking well. |

With my own addon domain sites I am struggling with even keywords with less than 20 000 competition. Cheers

Hi Devin - This is what HG currently says about IP addys: Quote:
This is a relatively new system so I don't think that my Reseller Acct, which predates this policy, has this option... but I can't say definitively since it hasn't been a concern of mine. ;-) I haven't used the Shared Web Hosting so I don't have a perspective on the issue you have brought up... However, after recently going thru a couple of months of hacking H***, I was VERY happy that I had the added security of a Resellers acct and individual cPanels for each domain. In addition, my primary web site is NOT an IM site, adding yet another layer of security (in my now paranoid mind! LOL) ...not intentionally hijacking the discussion, just offering an additional perspective! Tink

Devin, I've not had the same problem you are facing so far for add-on domains on a shared Hostgator account. I have a reseller Hostgator account as well. The only difference is the reseller accounts allow you to have separate cPanels for each domain though you still can have add-ons per cPanel. Fendi |

Hmm, this is interesting. I have one primary domain and several added on as sub-domains and I haven't seen any issues. I'd love to hear form more of you guys on this topic. Great question. |

Thanks for sharing your experiences. So some people think it does make a difference and others are ranking well with their add on domains. I remember reading somewhere that the reason it doesn't rank as well is because google see's add on domains like this: http://www.primarydomain.com/www.addondomain.com instead of reading it like http://www.addondomain.com Hmm ... I guess I should talk to hostgator and see if they know anything about it. Thanks again! Devin |
