What are some common KPIs I should take into consideration with a new market entry and how would they help guide my decisions? Any simple resources out there available as a starting point?

I am actually surprised to see a "business" type of question in an internet marketing forum, ah!

Depends on the market really, but here are two general KPI's:

1. Risk vs Expected ROI: how much you will need to spend to actually "break" into the market, when you will be reaching break-even point and when you can expect to be making profits

2. Timing of the Market: trend or going to stay for a while? Ascending right now or downwards to being forgotten. I don't think the weight loss market is going down any time soon, but Twitter marketing might... (this associates to volatility of the market itself, that is, the likelihood of being surpassed by something new)

I am curious as to why you are asking this. Care to elaborate?

Since the KPI is kind of performance measurement, you don't have a deal it with at the entry level.

If I started a new site a key KPI would be what percentage of my traffic I got from a search engine like Google. If Google starts sending a new site traffic, then it's a big clue you're heading in the right direction.
