ATTN Craigslist Posters: Would you find this useful?

Hi everyone,

As many of you who ever post on Craigslist know, they let you use a limited form of HTML to enhance the presentation - using different fonts, colors, and graphics.

Have you ever written a Craigslist ad using some of this fancy code, and wished you could write it in an easier tool, like MS Word or OpenOffice Writer?

Let me paint the picture of a web-based tool that would let you do that. You first write the post in Word, crafting the copy, layout, fonts, and every detail of how it looks exactly like you'd want. Next, you simply upload the .doc file to this website; it would generate Craigslist-compatible HTML that you could paste directly into your post.. The resulting listing, seen by your prospects, would look very much like what you wrote in the word document, if not exactly the same.

My question for you: If I built this, would you find it of value? Would you use it?

It would always be free to use with basic features. The final version would also offer a "pro" tier for a subscription of $5 to $10 a month. Pro would include some juicy extras, like speedier service, image hosting, and unlimited file size.

So, I'm writing to ask for your help. I really don't want to waste my time coding this up if no one is going to use it. So this post here is market research. If you post often on Craigslist, what would this service need to do to be so helpful and valuable, that you'd actually bookmark it? That you would use it on a regular basis? That other people you know who post on Craigslist are likely to use it in your estimation?

Or... is this a dumb idea that is not worth the paper it's printed on?

Thanks for your feedback!

Cheers,
Aaron

Thanks Mr2, I didn't find that tool when doing research before. Any others you know of? Is this the best?

That tool does indeed do a lot of what I'd had in mind for the free version. Though, I think I can do better (I did find a couple of bugs when giving it a stress test with a large sales letter). Also, it doesn't handle images. Do you (or anyone else) know an existing tool that does?

      Thanks again for your reply.

  • I would pay for a software that would do the following for me on craigslist:

1.) Allow you to upload a word document from word07 or something
2.) Then automatically turn that into a image file (jpeg, or gif)
3.) Then automatically upload it to a image host, and provide a simple link to paste into Craigslist.

This would help because this would mean you can post the same thing more than once. Then again, you can do this manually, but the software would save some time, and should work perfectly. A system like this should be free, or for a one time charge of $10 to $20....

Hit me up if you include that in your software
