Where can I learn basic stuff?

What is the recommended way or tool to check backlinks in my sites?

Where can I learn basic stuff like:

**What is the meaning of "being indexed"?
**What does a "unique" means?
And things like that, because I read those almost in all threads but doesn't
understand the meaning!.

Thank you

I am here with you patiently awaiting an answer. I think I have some ideas on it, but I am way to inexperienced to offer my views so I will wait with you for answers.

Hi, the best thing I can suggest (and this comes from someone fairly new myself) is to just search the forum here for whatever it is you are curious about. Do a search for backlinks and reach up, there is also a sticky somewhere for newbie stuff.

That is not viable my friend!
Looking here for "backlinks" is like looking for words like "the" or "not" or "do": It is everywhere!

Why is it not viable? Look at everyone of those posts and copy and paste them to word and then read them. Why ask the question again when very probably some of the most experienced IM have already told you how to get backlinks. We all learn somewhere and that is what I do when I want ot learn something and having read that lot if there is something I don't get I ask.

This is why I use Google to search the WF. It's much better than the built in forum search.

Thanks for the info Jared and yes I like using Google to search the forum as well. You might be interested to know that we now have Google search in the forum for our convenience. Its in the top navibar. Simply click search and the drop down will show you the standard forum search as well as the option to "Search the forum using Google". Much less time consuming these days.

Yes, exactly. And most of the posts that are here are relevant. You have to become a sponge, and just absorb all that your able to on a daily basis. Yes its time consuming, but if you are serious, you will learn what you need to know. Here's a nice starting place for tools for you. Check your backlinks and such... Webmaster Tools Tour

To check your backlinks, go to google (yahoo or msn) and type this:

    link:yourdomain.com

This will pull up the results of all websites linking to you.

Or you could do a google search for "How To Check Your Backlinks" which brings up a ton of tools to do this, here's one for example: Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch

"Being Indexed" means when the search engine spiders/bots go to your website, and put a list of your pages within their database. After you have "been indexed" your website will show up in their search results.

"Unique Visitor" means just that, a unique person (or ip adress) that visits your site. If the same person comes back a second time the same day, their second visit is not considered unique. Your webstats determine a unique visitor by their ip address.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks Launder,

I gave up on the forum's search feature quite a while ago, so I hadn't even noticed they added that google search right here... very cool.

I wonder how long ago they added the g-search feature?

      Why?
      Which one to believe?
