Need Advice: Will This "Reverse Engineering" Method Work?

Hi All,

I'm wondering if there are any tools, free or paid, that will help me to reverse engineer a site. Here's what I'm thinking.

1) Find a product that I think will sell and has an affiliate program.
2) Search the name of that product in Google.
3) Take the first site that comes up (ie: FirstSite) and "reverse engineer" it so I learn # of links, and other vital information.
4) Register the product I'm thinking of as an "Exact Match Domain".
5) Add the exact number of posts, backlinks, etc. as the site that comes up in my Google Search (ie: FirstSite).
6) Add a few more links and posts, etc. than those needed for item #5.
7) Your "Exact Match Domain" site will be a bit better than "FirstSite" so will be #1 in Google's Search Results.

Will this work? Is this too simplistic? Will things like the "age of the domain", etc. mean this will not work?

Thanks

Why do you want to reverse engineer a SEO campaign?

Have you thought about reverse engineering a PPC campaign already?

The second option should make you money WAY faster...

Playing in the serps is fun when you see the results in your Analytics account.

Yeah, sounds good. Its all about testing and come up with something or a strategy that works.

I have been playing with a youtube ranking on first page in minutes for any keyword I want. The more traffic the better! I rank there for a day or so and suck in a lot of free subscribers to my email list.

I don't think there is any software that can do those tasks, if you find one let me know LOL.
You just have to roll up your sleeve and do some manual research using websites that gives you
    analysis results.

There's more to SEO than that.

You can rank better with less backlinks.

    Seriously.

    True story.

Your focus should be on getting AUTHORITY high value sites to link to your page.

Also, ranking #1 is just part of the equation.

You also have to pay attention to CONVERSION efficiency.

You can't just 'add backlinks'... you have to get the administrator of those sites to add the link to your site.

      So therein lies your problem.

Besides that, it's a pretty sound plan...

Not very convincing, since Google will not give enough weight to your website and you'll lag behind the "FirstSite" in SEO. If you would make any changes to your website (as you say that it will not be like the "FirstSite") then what is the guarantee to get ahead of the "FirstWebsite". Google sees many factors when ranking websites; not just the link-structure.

    Posts...backlinks? Nahh.

    TRAFFIC.

Where does the competition get their traffic from.

That's what you want to know.

There's a rushing river of leads and once you know where it is, you can step into it yourself.

I say put a buy button on it with no product and write a letter to barak oBama so he can pitch it on the TV.

Reverse engineering as in seeing what links they used for their site? Check out AHREFs and download the Firefox/Chrome plugin called SEOQuake. It should help you out with that.

The main problem I have with the list of tasks OP listed is 'adding backlinks'

You don't 'add' or 'build' links... you EARN THEM

You do this through social media engagement, content marketing, etc.

    It's all about building trust.

If you're looking to reverse engineer PPC campaigns, I use What Runs Where. Expensive, but it added a lot to my bottom line.
