What are some profitable niches in tech to make a blog-magazine about?

I've started a blog about tech and I eventually want to find advertisers and sponsors on it.
My initial topic is tech startups in Texas. I don't know if that's a profitable niche to write about.
I was wondering if theres a way to find out if thats a good topic, or if I should switch to something else.
When I go Google Keyword tool on Texas startups theres very little searches for it.

Is there a better tech topic I can write about?

If your looking for a hot tech topic, start with drones. Dig deeper into the niche and find something very specific about drones to blog about and you should do very well.

    Two big problems:

    1. The audience is small.
    2. The audience is weak in terms of monetization.

Entering the market with a tech blog is a tough nut to crack, even with a sledgehammer. If I were you I'd reconsider pushing forth with the blog. I have a feeling you'll be wasting your time.

All is not lost, though. Next time around, put together a strong plan before taking action.

    Some elements to consider:

    - Audience / Market Size
    - Demand
    - Social Engagement
    - Competition
    - Angles for Entry / Penetration
    - Monetization

It's a big subject, so I'd recommend research, followed by planning, followed by taking action.

People are generally mad with what's new in technology market specially something that they can afford to buy - new release of mobile phones, ipad, gadgets, etc. - an up-to-date review of all these new releases with likely to get a lot of traffic.

IPv6. IPv4 addresses are running out. So if you can start a blog-magazine about IPv6, and then promote a course about how to use it, understand it, and configure it on your routers and level 3 switches..... you might have a hit.

I'm not surprised about the search results for your current topic. When you think about tech startups, you think about California and Silicon Valley. It's kind of like how the film and television industry is in L.A. Anyway, if I were doing a tech blog, I'd go for technology gadgets (smartphones - samsung galaxy s6), ipad mini's, laptops - macbooks, and so on). All you really have to do is to figure out what people are searching for and what products are coming out in the niche. It's all about how well you can do research.

Here's a suggestion: Expose Windows 10 for the {fill-in-the-blank} that it is. And do it now while it's hot. Windows 10's is teetering, and people aren't comfortable with what they're hearing. So use your site to expose critical problems and update it with immediate solutions. Your content will get the traffic for sure, but your tone will determine whether you get the advertising dollars.

I would say a hot topic will be anything related to "big data". This is going to be explosive in the future.

        Well...
        • You can always poke fun of the "Something happened" error message.
        • Then there's the remote bandwidth that it steals from and shares with other strangers' PCs.
        • It also turns on privacy settings that were turned off.
        • All updates are forced and on the same date.
        • And Cortana uses a keylogger and voice recording function to send your PC activities to a remote server.
That's all I can think of right now. As time goes on, Windows 10 should give any tech blog enough material to work with for years.

Watch TED talks videos and you can get an idea of what the tech world finds interesting.

Write posts on rumors about tech that hasn't been released yet
Do video reviews and link them to your blog
