I have an idea to create a review site for my town/country. We are slow on the Internet side of things and I believe having a site where users can login and review any product, service, food or anything in the country can be a great hit.

But how would I monetize it? Shoot your ideas please!

It's also great as much of it is user generated content.

I'm looking for easy website businesses to start, that don't take too much of my time.

I recently launched my online directory which is doing great so far. I want to plan a few sites that do not sap a huge amount of time, to monetize.

Instead of a big one. I'd like a few smaller ones to build income streams, growing over time. As a bonus if you have any ideas (not the common ones spread on the net), you can recommend some too

Thanks guys

Well, using your idea I would get a few people to review the products they already use in their homes and businesses.

You add the exact or newer model (product affiliate link) to their posts.
    Optimize for SEO.

They share their posts and search traffic comes to read > click > Sale!

Look at similar websites in other countries. You'll find all the answers you need.

    Nice idea!

Amazon products, Adsense Advertising, Cpa products are just a few to get you started and looking into.

I think Tom also brought up a good point to look at some of your competition in your own Country to give you some ideas

What everyone else said. You might want to try adopting the now-defunct Epinions platform of partnering with a site like shopping.com to submit your reviews. It's a negligible amount though and likely won't cover bandwidth. That said, if your idea is a small review site for a small town you shouldn't expect to take in large income unless you're targeting a specific niche, which may actually be a good idea instead of a one-for-all review site.

    Just some ideas.

Sounds like you are bordering toward a directory site that allows reviews.

If you go directory style you can charge the businesses for premium space/advertising to be on your site.

Its really hard to suggest you any programs until we know the niche on which you are reviewing products.

Thanks guys, some good advice here. I wasn't planning on actually targetting specific niches. But a general review site. Kind of like Metacritic. They have movies, games, and others
