HI, I am very new in the IM business, infact have spent the last 3-4 months just learning and buying products and even got suckered in to get rich quick schemes out of desperation.

I am willing to put in the hours and hard work and realize that it will take time and money to start but could do with some short cuts as have been unemployed since the begining of the year and literraly have no money left to play around with . My question is: I am now ready to start my very first website, but realize that to make money one will need at least a few websites. To save on money is it alright to by one domain name and just add subfolders for my other sites or will that hurt me in the long run. Should I buy I general domain name and build small sites around that theme and do subfolders or should I buy a specific domain name for each site?

Thanks in advance
Xandy

You can try out .info domains which are pretty cheap.

Ezinearticles.com may not accept your articles if you are not redirecting to a primary domain.

    Hey Xandy,

Not sure about other hosts but if you use Godaddy and get the deluxe option ($7-8 a month or so) you can add as many domains as you would like on it.

Also I don't think you should fall into the trap of thinking you need multiple sites to make money. I strongly believe you build up one site at a time and once it runs well and making great money move along. It laser targets your focus and stops the scattered approach which ends up bringing dribs and drabs..

a .info will cost you about 89c and then you can set up a blog... write articles, submit to ezine etc.. bookmark them and keep doing this and tweaking. you don't need money to make money on the net.. thats why its awesome!

    all the best

I wouldn't fall into the trap of trying to do everything at once. Work on a single website with a profitable premise.

Specifically to answer your question, you can always use 1 domain with subfolders, then later, if you create new domains where those subfolders would be better placed, you can use a 301 redirect to redirect to the new domain, specific to that subfolder.

Of course, best practice is to use separate domains.

I think hostgator offer a great reseller package where you can host infinite domains. I do it all the time: register the domain at namecheap, host at hostgator...if a site takes off and requires more bandwidth, move it over to a vps or dedicated server.

    Hope that helps.
