Hi,

I own the domain ConvertForFree.com and uses it as online conversions tool.

I think this domain is great because of its meaning (convert for free) and that it is easy to remember.

Please tell me if I am right here, is this indeed a good domain?

it is a nice domain but that doesn`t necessarily mean you`ll get a lot of money for it. If you plan to use it, do it, if you want to sell it, try establishing a website first.

As I wrote I already build a website for this domain which is an online conversions tool.

Can you evaluate it in this case?

Thanks, but the word "for" is part of the phrase "convert for free", so I can't omit it...

I think it could also be a good domain name for file type conversion tool. e.g. free PDF conversion tool.
LOL consider a different niche - software!

You can use Sedo or flippa domain evaluation packages, this will help you to get exact value of your domain.

The domain itself has little to no resale value.... but tons of successful websites have been built on otherwise low value domains.

In this development case I don't think the domain really matters since nearly all of your traffic will come from search engines and building a brand around this kind of service in general will be an uphill battle. So I don't really have a problem with the domain.

Yes but some of the visitors may remember the site if it has many useful conversions and the domain is catchy.

Of course it's a great domain name. But then again any domain that makes money or has the potential to make money is great.

Why do you ask? Do you intend to sell it? I might buy.

converter.net is for sale for $25,000. I think you agree that 1 word dot net domain is better than 3 word dot com with one stop word in it. And converter is a better keyword than convert. It contains the latter.
Your domain can be worth from a few hundred to a few thousand.
But if it earns $1000 a month then the price would be in tens of thousands.

        gamestoenjoy,

I know you love your domain, but from an objective point of view, I don't see anything special about it.

First of all, it has the word "free" in it. That word is shunned by many email spam tools and often free sites are not given their due because many of them have no real value in their niche.

Second, the word "convert" to many that are not in the IM niche means nothing. Convert what? Convert sea water to fresh water? Convert to a new religion? Convert your home heating from oil to natural gas? Convert the sink hole in your back yard to a swimming pool? The point is, "convert" is not a money word - it is generic and applies to many different things.

Third, what is unique and special about your site? Is it a collection of things that can be found freely online? How much consistent organic traffic does your site get on a monthly basis? How much revenue does your site generate per month on a consistent basis?

Find someone that wants what you're offering and see what you can get for it. I would suggest that's the only way you're going to know what it's really worth.

          What an ignorant post!
I consider your entire post as a meaningless babble, but I will only address the highlighted part. So outside the IM it means nothing? LOL. On the contrary. How about these:
convert psd to html $8 CPC
convert html to pdf $4 CPC
convert pdf to word 600K monthly searches
convert to mp3 200K monthly searches

Are you telling us that only marketers convert documents, video, audio files?

And then, the dreaded word FREE in the domain... and so? Read "Predictable Irrational" by Dan Ariely. Nothing beats free!

Convert what? How difficult is it to open the keyword planner (a FREE tool btw), plug in the keyword and find out. Someone who has spent 10 years here should be able to do at lest that much research. Seems those have been completely fruitless years.

About the traffic, again, you should be able to plug the url into Alexa and find out that convertforfree.com is ranked at 1,5M. Much higher than businessempires.com which has the Alexa rank of 3M.

Actually, I must admit, there were two meaningful sentences in your post (highlighted in green), which are the repetition of what other posters had already said before.

or were you just looking for an argument?

You apparently had reservations when you posted initially (otherwise, why ask?), but having received pretty consistent feedback - you seem unwilling to accept it.

By all means (since your mind is already made up) list it for about $200K and let us know how that works out for you.

The best way to determine the value of a domain is to let potential buyers know of its availability, the easiest way being to do what you've done and post on a forum, and a true value will soon become apparent. We could discuss valuation metrics until the cows come home - or indeed until they come home, go to bed, and dream of eating grass or have nightmares about peculiar farmers who appear obsessed with touching them - but the greater fool theory of pricing will always reign supreme. Typically, a great domain will be snapped up in minutes; a terrible one will gather dust until cows evolve and sprout wings, and probably longer still.

You got it all wrong! Cows evolve into whales. Typically.

Since the OP's problem is solved (domain is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. There is no right price, but only a fair price), we can now divert from the topic.
