Default Privacy, Disclaimers n all that jazz!

So i'm creating sites/blogs to point people towards affiliate products.

The sites will have general tips and info on the chosen subject and then of course a recommendation of the product i'm promoting.

I spoke to a web solicitor (uk) and he quoted about £300 to do some basic templates i could use and adapt depending on product and wether i was collecting email addresses etc.

Sooo that is a fairly hefty investment on sites that may or may not bring any money in.

Is there a cheaper option that doesn't involve copying other peoples (which may break copywrite)?

How do you guys and gals set them up on your sites??

Looks like this is based on us federal law. Not sure if that would cover us over in the uk?

It should be fine. You can change some of the references to make it more applicable. Also unless you are promoting to just UK users, you need a catch all.

Yes we have used it. You may need to manually edit the text that the software generates to accomodate a UK postcode rather than the zip code that you need to enter for your address details.

It seems to tick most of the boxes.

Sure, the biggest market at present for a lot of things is in the USA, but that's somewhat dangerous advice to give, Graham, given that you don't know which market the OP works in.

Yes, the general laws seem to be that you need to comply with the laws of the place in which you do business (although what the heck would I know! I ain't no lawyer-man) and the internet is certainly challenging that regularly. [tumbleweeds, spurs, whiskey, tomohawks, gold, deputies, posses, poker, pianolas, and whores with hearts of gold anyone?]

Who says US law is "catch-all"?

Okay, sure, it's really up to the OP to do his/her due diligence and not take advice from random people on internet marketing forums regarding legal advice. But likewise, I'd personally be hesitant about dispensing legal advice of that nature.

Just a thought.

Hi night. Just to clarify i certainly won't just go ahead with anything just because someone on here says so. Especially legal advice. My main reason for asking here is as the majority of people on here have thier own websites, i assumed people would have privacy reports, and terms and conditions themselves. Wanted to see wether people used lawyers/solicitors or templates as Graham suggested.

No disrespect but everyone should do there own research regardless of the topic.

Also we are not talking about brain surgery here, we're talking about affiliate marketing.

A lot of the T&C's are general terms that would apply worldwide and a lot of it is common sense, but put in a legal framework.

We are UK based and we use them with some slight modifications...

There may be some obscure or otherwise laws that are missed that are applicable to the UK....

Very good point Dan. And i think it is worth the investment if it is going to save thousands in legal fees.

What i was half expecting is people saying, "well i use a lawyer", or "i use lawyer for some things on my site and templates for others".

It's always a good reference to see how other people arrange the legal set up. IE- template, copy or outsource to a law firm.

I certainly would not simply copy the way someone else does it just because they say it on here.

However as a newbie to the IM world i was interested to know what other IM'ers to in relation to this. IE- what is the norm when setting up a site. Surly it's an integral part of running a site.
