Hi,

i do have a couple of ideas but at the moment i want to focus on one thing and give it 100% and im sure ill find all the help i need here and people will point me to the right direction by telling me where to start and what to do.

i dont want to make this too long so im just going to ask right now whats something good and easy to start with as a beginner? or something that works if i put alot of effort in?

i do have an idea and a budget of $500.
but i would like to hear it from the experienced people first.

    Hi
Great question, i like to start of as what sort of niche will you be in. Best to build a blog or website or even a squeeze page (landing page) and drive targeted traffic through and build you email list.

YOU MUST OF HEARD, THE MONEY IS IN THE LIST.

Whether you are going to become an affiliate marketer or selling some sort of a product or service, the best proven way to promote is to build a email list and build some sort of a relationship.

There is something i called KLT,

    K= Know
    L= Like
    T= Trust

If you can get someone in your niche to know you, like you and trust you then selling or promoting a product will become much easier.

Why not offer your graphics design services to marketers and website owners? Many (or most) don't have those skills and they hire people to do the work.

Yes, picking a topic around something you know, enjoy, have education or training in, will give you a head start. But don't be satisfied with just doing what other graphic designer are doing. Find your own corner of the market where you can stand out and be unique.

"Need help starting my idea - $500 to play with"

If you treat your nest egg as "$500 to play with" you will surely lose it all . . . and very quickly. Business is not "playing" with anything if you are really serious about getting into this profession. Save your money until you know what you're doing and where it should be spent. $50 will get you started.

Just about all newcomers into IM don't investigate, and are not aware of, the various IM business models.

Educate yourself first. This is the single most important thing you should do before leaping onto anything.

Why? Well, because the various models return HUGELY different income levels.

Unfortunately I know this from first hand experience, having spent well over a decade working hard on many different approaches. My 'success' was only sporadic and only very moderate (until a couple of years ago).

What happens with newcomers is that they simply 'fall' into what they first read, about the affiliate marketing model, or the display advertising model, or the domain 'realtor' model. Don't feel bad about nearly 'falling' into something, it's very common even today amongst those who have been in IM a long time.

Newbies most often 'find' themselves in a business model without consciously having selected it. Unknown to them, that then severely limits or expands their possible future income. (For me it was the difference between working endless months without earning a cent, and earning 6 figures a month).

Make yourself aware of the different possibilities. Otherwise your are walking 'blind' into IM. You'll be playing a game of random chance rather than deliberate selection.

It was, eventually, switching to the ecommerce business model that completely changed my own IM game. For you it may be something else, but consciously select having investigated first.

        Good luck with your future.

very good advice, thanks a lot Zany, very informative ..
any particular posts you think i should read on these forums or any websites you recommend i should visit and have a read?? since youre in the business for a while it would save me the time trying to search things

      Thanks for your reply Denise,
I've tried, i even made a website as an online portfolio. but its not working because people on fiverr are charging as lo as $5 for logos and banners and $40 for a website... design industry is out sourced badly ..

Yes as Denise mentioned you can get your first taste of making money by offering design services to others and you can start with fiverr.com

Make sure to have upsells so you earn more than $5. This can get you easy money and possibly long term clients to do design work for and then you'll have more to invest in your internet marketing.

Yep, this could definitely be a good option.

But it does demand "hitting the streets"... just getting out there and making yourself visible to local business owners in your area. Retail business owners ,that is.

If you are a people person it is simple as going down a line of stores in your neighborhood and talking with Owners and Managers and telling them how you can help their business
And then of course following up and leaving business cards

Thats how we did it in the 'old days' LOL

Of course now with the advent of Internet , people are averse to those ways of the 'old days'

As a graphics designer, Fiverr would be a great place to get an account and start trying to find some work.

Also, all the freelancer sites are great for someone who has the skills.

Don't feel the need to become an Internet Marketer from the get-go.

And I agree with previous posts, the $500 is not just something to be "played with". You can use that as an investment in some education into topics that may be pertinent to your experiences.

There are so many options within IM that you can spend your time just exploring them without really making money with them.

But to begin with, Fiverr, Upwork, Elance. Find some work. Do it. Make money.

Post some tshirt designs on teespring and in the spreadshirt marketplace. You get paid for the quality work you put out, the Fiverr art cant compete with you there.

Make a blog giving some design tips and tutorials. Record some youtube videos doing tutorials, and then put together a course on learning photoshop or your expertise.
    Thats how Lynda.com got started
Maybe add a job board on your blog for designers and post some ads.
Once your blog is up create an Amazon account and then you can sell art stuff: Drawing tablets, pens, trackball mice, sketch pads, pens, paper, colored pencils, markers, art software, art books, etc etc etc.

I think this is a nice business and it will be almost free to do all of these things, they only require your skills and a cheap domain name and cheap hosting. it will take time to grow but you could have something nice in a few years and invest almost $0, just your time

Hi Fadinho, thanks for asking. Well, initially you can start freelancing job. Use Peopleperhour or Freelancer instead Upwork (a bit hard now-a-days) or Fiverr (Full of crap). In the mean time, use your own facebook page & website (should contains your portfolio). Start both online & offline marketing. Best of luck.

You have plenty of options, fadinho.

3 ideas that instantly come to mind:

    1. Graphic design gigs on Fiverr.
    2. A WSO on how anyone can produce high-end graphics.
    3. High-end graphic design for the IM industry (logos, branding material, mascots, etc.)

The one with the biggest potential is 3. In your shoes, this is what I'd do:

    1. Portfolio Website.
    2. Organize Graphic Design Staff.
    3. Target IM Community.
    4. Low Initial Prices.
    5. Setup a WSO.
    6. Setup Similar Elsewhere.
    7. Build Portfolio.
    8. Garner Testimonials.
    9. Raise Prices Just Below Competition.

There will always be a demand for high quality graphic work in IM, and the demand will always be great. The trick is to penetrate the market, build your reputation, streamline operations, manage a reliable and exemplary staff of designers, foster the growth of a client portfolio who regularly require your services or, at the very least, return when they need you.

the best way to approach this is going in it for yourself,
setup your own web design operation that you could market to others
web design isnt a basic skill, so you can bet people will pay good money for your services

be prepared to study some marketing content too, because your going to develop a strategy if your going to make it work properly

Why not you try freelancing ? If you have telnet then no tension, you can blow up your career with freelancing. Freelancing gives you some fixed buyer so that you can work with them regularly which will inspire you to start your own business. Fiverr is best for getting early money !!

No need to invest money just use your skills and time wisely. Better not to pause instead start quickly and enhance your skills. Go into freelancing and seek for sites where you can showcase your talent in graphic design. But you have to build a good portfolio beforehand.

The 400+ other graphic designers...over the past decade schools have turned out THOUSANDS of graphic designers. You are also competing with people who asked this same question 2, 3 even 5 years ago.

I've hired many graphic designers, almost all from word of mouth and referral.

You have received some good advice, and if you have a master plan to execute (and it sounds like you do not), then solve your problems in the direction of your goals. In the meantime, put bread on the table.

Do so here, and Fiverr if you must, although that place is glutted with GD's. And the competition is fierce.

Give us a little detail on what skills you have, what projects did you do, even as assignments, so we get a feel for what you want and"like" to do.

I mean, I have one graphic designer who just works on ebooks, putting them into Adobe and making them look great, involves knowing a lot of print mechanics.

Also, we pay good for postcard designers, always a good field to get started in, but you have to earn your way up.

Best advice is don't compete, specialize in an evergreen, wanted, needed and oft used niche and develop your brand and style. For now, I advise you to take any job you can get, for the experience and fr future referrals.

Some simple fast cash where you would not have to worry about traffic and marketing is offering your services on fiverr. Don't let the name full you and make sure to keep and open mind. As a level 2 seller you can earn up to $4,300 per gig. Most good sellers average around 15 to 25 dollars per order.

Fiverr will help you get a little experience as well. Schedule you time wisely and that business should take you no more an hour per day max to complete.

You can also offer your services via your own landing page maybe giving away some good valuable insight for your potential prospect. Once they join your list you can keep in contact and offering additional paid services.

What cool about Fiverr as well is don't be affraid to ask your customers to write you a review for your services outside of Fiverr. Careful though and do it from within delivering your gig in your material.

Testimonials does wonders for your marketing efforts.
