Which working best - sending to single offer vs sending to Amazon shopping cart

Besides those that are selling plugins, I wanted to reach out to amazon affiliates
and ask what is working best for you?

I had an Amazon plugin that did a lot and I was given a choice of putting things in the shopping
cart or sending to the sales page so they could read up on the product and catch comments.

I never had as good success sending to the cart as I did to the actual page. And now
the plug in provider has changed hands and all it seems to do is send right to the
shopping cart.

And now of course there are several types of amazon plugins including the bundled
offer, which sends right to the shopping cart.

However, what to get really hinges on not only getting them to Amazon, but landing
the customer where they are most comfortable and I can make sales....

So what is your experience?

Thanks.

I agree with the above. Get them to the Amazon product page. That way they may browse and pick up more stuff.

People use "direct to cart" because the think it activates a 90 day cookie. But those people don't really know how the 90 day cookie works.

You get the 90 day cookie on anything they add to cart whether they were sent directly to the cart or the sales page.

If you sent them to the cart for an item you only get the 90 day cookie for that item while it is in the cart. The 90 day cookie does not apply to other items unless they are also added to the cart within 24 hrs.

Example, they visit your site and click on an item, say a lamp, and your site takes them directly to the cart and adds the lamp.

The lamp has a 90 day cookie as long as it is in the cart. If they return to Amazon two days later and add a carpet then complete the order you only get commission on the lamp, not the carpet.

The carpet was added after your 24 hr cookie expired so you do not get commission. The lamp, which has been sitting in the cart for 3 days, has a 90 day cookie so you still get credit for that sale.

I never 'direct to cart' because many of the items I sell are pretty expensive and buyers would want to read the features list, read customer reviews etc. before buying.

As someone who buys from Amazon myself I wouldn't want to add an item direct to cart without first reading the product details, seeing who I'm buying from etc.

Thanks everyone. That has been my thinking as well - send them to the sales page.

Sales pages can be written in a way that every one wants to jump aboard. However,
I find that experience can give the best answer.

I hope people take heed, do a split test if needed and then stick with what is
        working best. Why lose sales....
