Question re Clickbank tracking and email list sign ups

Many vendors have a very prominent email list signup on their sales page.

If an affiliate sends a visitor to the vendors landing page, and the visitor signs up to the email list then purchases the product a few days later through a link in an email sent by the vendor, does the affiliate get credit for that sale?

If so, how is it tracked?

That is a few years old - but likely the same. You'd have to check clickbank knowledge base.

This is why it is key to have your own list. Get people for free onto your list then you direct them to the offer to buy.

    Thanks Jill.

Ok so you would get credit if the sale happened within 60 days and they did not follow any other hoplinks to the vendor page.

So I guess the vendor would just use their own affiliate link in emails to avoid having to pay commissions.

    Also know as a "leak."

It does happen and is a good reason to be very careful who you promote.

Ahh 'leak', googling that and clickbank has been very educational. Thanks very much.

Actually, it's not always a leak. Some vendors use those emails to follow up and sell the product and include YOUR affiliate link in all the emails.

I would check with the vendor, also test your hoplink, then sign up for their list. It's good to know what you're promoting anyhow and you'll be able to see exactly how it works. Also, unless they are overwriting your cookie with a new hoplink you'll still get the sale for 60 days as long as the cookie is still set on the buyers computer.
