I'd like to share with fellow people here how I managed to get more than 20% clickthru for Ezinearticles after applying a simple technique!!

This is what I've been doing to get less than 20% clickthru!!

And this is my secret to get more than 20% clickthru!!

I simply changed the way I write my resource box and it converts better.

Hope this post will be helpful for you!!

    Great stuff, ebizman!

Classic mistake in the first example... I still see so many article marketers using the resource box as a biography ego booster. Blech! Complete waste of space.

You have to give the reader a REASON to click that link. It has to be a SELFISH REASON, not because they're so impressed by your life story and how smart you are.

Thanks for taking the time to make the images and start this thread. Excellent!

This really does work. I used to just post a link and not much thru traffic but now I make it a part of my article and they are more inclined to click on the link especially with a little bit of build up to make them feel like there is more great information on the website.

I have had mixed results with my articles. I have had as high as 90% CTR and as low as 10% but usually average about 20% - 25%

Yes I found that the more your resource box looks like a resource box the less likely you are to get a click.

On the other hand, the closer your box looks like another paragraph pointing to a resource, (your links) the higher the clickthroughs.

Ebizman used a phrase that captures attention with "let's recap" which is added power in getting the reader to read the last "paragraph".

Instead of having your article start off great and then slowly wind down you need to have that burst of attention near the bottom to propel the reader into your last words.

Then be sure you have a "call to action". Tell them to "check it out now". "Follow the link". "Look for yourself". "Find out for yourself now". Don't wait to find the answer".

  • You only have 85 clicks so far. If you redo your title to put your keyword phrase at the beginning, you should get better rankings.

    Ebizman,
Good stuff and I agree with you. I do have a question and I'm still learning so bear with me if it's ignorant. Doesn't EZ only allows up to three words in your anchor text. What if your webpage your linking to is a long tailed five word key phrase? Do you place the first three words in the anchor text and leave the last two out? They have declined to publish some of my articles because of excessive anchor text.

    Thanks

Thanks Ebizman this should help me get more clicks. My resource boxes just haven't been converting very well only like 10 percent which is terrible. Hopefully I got accepted for platinum status as I am up for review now and I can put this practice to good use on my future articles. I really like the "lets recap" transition it feels very formal and puts the reader at ease.

      Hi ebizman87,

I totally agree that the first resource box approach isn't likely to get many clickthroughs. But I do wonder about the second one too...

Making it part of the article is great. And tying it in with a good transition is what makes that work. I've got to try yours ;-)

Also, a strong call to action and especially a compelling "ethical bribe" are essential. And they have to work for the audience that's likely to read your article or else it still won't work.

BUT you don't seem to mention your name anywhere in your resource box...

I'm not so sure about that one. When people republish your articles, the resource box is often the only place where your name is mentioned, so I think it's important to include your name in a way that makes it clear that this is YOUR article.

And yes, EZA only allows a max of 3 words per anchor link, and of course only 2 links per resource box. That's a new rule as of a while ago (don't remember when they switched).

So before you all go out and "fix" your resource boxes, do this:

Take a close look at your old resource boxes. If any of them have either an anchor link with more than 3 words or more than than two links, and the anchor link (or the third link) is important to you, you may want to leave well enough alone. They let you keep them as long as you don't attempt to resubmit them. Once you do, you're bound by the new rules, i.e., 3 words or fewer per anchor link and 2 links max to "self-serving" sites.

        Hi elisa,

I don't think that adding a "strong call to action" or "ethical bribe" still works.I'm growing tired of reading "If you want this, click here or visit this and blah blah"..

Instead of following the masses, I believe that applying "reverse" psychology may work well in marketing. I don't mention anything to my audience but I'm sure that they can see my anchored text (links) and know that it's clickable. Look at the online press releases. There's not a single "go here" or "click here" but indirect messages that'll tell the audience that something is available at a particular website and trigger them to click it!!

Yes, you got a point that mentioning our name as the authors are important but look at the great articles from the entrepreneur or forbes magazines. They only mention the authors name once and not twice but are still doing well with the audience. And my statistics show that when I stopped mentioning about myself or my name in my resource box, I got more CTR..

However I respect your point of view and really appreciate it!!

That's an interesting approach - I wouldn't have thought to write a resource box that way. I'll have to try it and see what happens.

I also think Elisabeth makes some great points above - thanks for the update on how ezinearticles is doing things these days.

Hm... I think I'm going to run a test by using YOUR method with a few articles to see what happens. I definitely would LOVE to get 40% or more CT rates ;-)

And I'll report back in a few days to let you know what happened.

Nice, this is really powerful tip, lots of writer lose the flow when they write author bio and this cause them to lose the attention of readers. Articles convert way better when the resource box is more a part of your article instead of something else that can break the flow of article.

Yep, i completely agree with ebizman, John and Matt above.

I got into the habit of my article "ending" and then adding a mini bio! (not good). Now the bio acts as a continuation of the article. Within my bio, i like to remind the reader once again of their problem, tell them the solution and them give them a link to the solution of their problem (my site).

My clickthroughs sky-rocketed using this technique. My main niche now, i have around 136 aricles at EZA written since i started using this technique about 2 months ago. My overall CT rate is at 34%, however, the more i write now - i actually feel disappointed if an article has below 40%-45% CTR. (hard to please! )

      Cheers

Thanks for the tip. Lots of great comments, too.

I can see where another webmaster might find your article more appealing to re-publish because, without your name, it might appear more like original content from them. Do you have any idea if leaving your name out of the resource box has resulted in any increase in traffic and/or backlinks from other 3rd party websites?

      Thanks,
