Let's see just how many aspects of internet marketing we come up with. |

I saw in a video once where the guy compared learning IM to becoming an athlete, but having to learn all sports at the same time. I liked that analogy.

| Why restrict that just to beginners. Seriously though none of us can ever be experts in everything but online marketing is hard work and a constant education and beginners have to learn that as well. La dominatrix |

| Because there will be a few beginners who literally don;t know what anything on these lists is. That would terrify me. (Not that it shoud, beginners! You certainly don't need to be an expert at all these things to have success.) |

Wait, some of you guys actually KNOW all the pieces? I don't even know what the picture is supposed to be, lol. I prefer to think of it as lego blocks. Computers can solve jigsaw puzzles - that implies it's easy and mechanical to get good at this stuff. It's not. You either need to be widely talented at things like computers, communication, business, and marketing OR you need to be good at assembling a team of people who are good at those things and managing them for a profit. Hopefully it's both, so you can start as one and segue into being the other. But I think it IS scary for newbies and rightly so. 99% of everyone reading this is currently failing at internet marketing and will continue to do so. The ones that succeed won't be because they have all the pieces of the puzzle. It'll be because they're willing to keep rebuilding something out of the lego blocks they have until it works. THEN they move onto the next thing, MAYBE go back and improve the first again afterwards. Most successful folks are the ones that build their own thing out of the blocks everyone else is doing, just in a unique way, or attacking it with the tenacity to keep at it until it works like you know in your gut it can. Strange how seeing a list like this can give you the impression that even though it's an overcomplication, it's also an oversimplification, too... DURR.... ![]() Really though, it's as simple as picking something BASIC that you can actually do and then DO IT until it works. Take what you learn, then do the next thing - as they say, rinse and repeat. Hope that actually contributes instead of derails - I'm a little tired today. |

Hi Kieth, I really like your use of the word "segue" in your response. ![]() I just created this thread to see how many "nuts and bolts" there are in the online marketing world. I am in no way suggesting that we should use all of these items being listed. I was just curious |

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to shut down the listing - I was just adding to the fear that this list would be disheartening to anyone that they should take courage - you can just start with what you know, and don't learn more than you need to get started on the plan you settle on as your first. Once you settle on it, don't quit until you make it work. Of course, it helps if you focus on the basics so you make sure that you're not wasting your time on some newfangled "gimmick" marketing, so for beginners: It's all about: Building Pages (so you have something for your visitors to look at) Getting Links (so new visitors can find you) Providing Value (so your visitors are glad they came) Making Offers (so you can profit from their visit) There's my "big 4" lego blocks. Everything I do has got to fit into one of those 4 categories, or else it's not contributing in any way to my income. Notice "hanging out on forums all day" isn't in there, so with that, I should go get some work done, right? Wonderful thread. I imagine it will double as a nice "what to make a WSO about" list for many folks as well.
