Affiliate Marketing - Target US but located and operating form another country. Any problems?

Hello everyone,

I plan on starting an affiliate marketing website as a side job for any extra income, but the thing is that I live in Greece which is a really small market where most people prefer to buy from physical stores and buying online except from very few niches is kinda under-development still.

High quality keywords are still in the low thousands.

I was wondering, would there be any problems if I created an affiliate website targeting US customers?

Keywords for US have much much higher search volumes and after research I have found a couple of niches I could go into. Even the less popular one has like many tens of thousands more searches than the most popular niche here in Greece.

So I was wondering should there be any issue for me living and operating in another country (Greece in my case) and running an affiliate website targeting another country (US here)?

I know that most affiliate networks don't have any problem issuing payments anywhere in the world.

The website will run in US time, reviews, new posts, material and content will be published when US traffic peaks etc.

I don't think there would be an issue but I would love to hear from people in the same situation. Especially from people who live in small countries with weaker markets and are operating a website targeting some other market.

Have you faced any difficulties? Are there any issues I should know about, anything I should keep an eye out for?

There is no problem targeting the US market from Greece.
Online marketing is worldwide as long as you know what you are doing.
I live in S Korea but my target market is US & Canada
And I get subscribers and buyers.
    Cheers!

I'm in UK and target US customers (amongst others, I'm not actually too fussy so long as they spend money!)

It might be worth getting US hosting rather then EU hosting as that slightly affects speed and a few other factors.

You're inside the EU so that should be fine with most payment processors.

    Go for it!

No problem at all. But . . .

Unless you have an explicit reason, why target only the U.S? The world is your oyster, as they say.

The thing to do, in general, is to determine "allowed countries" for each affiliate offer you promote. If you send traffic outside of those countries, any leads will be scrubbed (you won't get paid).

There are various ways around the issue, and it is a big issue, unless, like I say, you are in fact only targeting U.S traffic (via PPC, say). Two ways around it:

    1. Collect opt-ins.
    2. Redirect traffic to country-specific offers.

#1 is a good idea whatever you do. Consider it building your business.

    The idea being:

Squeeze Page - Thank You Page (Monetized) - Automated Follow-Up Emails (Re-Marketing)

In a nutshell, then: you will have no trouble operating from Greece. In fact, just the opposite. You get all the benefits most of us do and you get to live in Greece. Win-win!

    Cheers! - Tom

Being in a different country won't affect your sales but the way you collect e-mail and promote your affiliate offers will create a big impact and will have an effect on you sales.

Affiliate marketing can make you some big money. A lot of marketers don't do it the right way though...
