It's Official You can Link To Sales Page (in a fashion)

Hi,

I just emailed ezine about linking straight to the vendors sales page because I had seen others link straight to it and they were all published.

I didn't quite understand the response but it seems that you can link straight to the site but by doing something difficult and technical (well for me anyway).

Here's what they said:

"we will accept articles which forward/redirect to an affiliate link from the top-level of a domain name.For example, it is permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:
htttp://your-company-name.com/
...but it would not be permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:
htttp://your-company-name.com/page.html
htttp://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/"

If possible can somebody please break that down into linking for dummies?

I take it that it has something to do with going through your own site first but without the visitor seeing it or something?

Any answers hugely appreciated.

    To keep your cost down in my experience they will accept subdomains....... and subdomains are free.

    It's really simple. You buy a domain. You go into your control panel and do a permanent redirect to your affiliate link. Or you create a php redirect in the index.php file (google it - easy as pie). Then you just use that domain in any resource box that you publish in your article. Spend 20 minutes googling and reading and you'll then think this is very easy and not complex at all. Better yet actually DO it and you'll be sure it's easy.

      If you're not sure how to do a permanent redirect, you can try the following simple redirect script:

      Open up a text file and copy and paste the following:

      <html>
      <script>
      location = "http://your-affiliate-website-goes-here.com";
      </script>
      </html>

      Save it as "index.html" and upload it to the root directory of your domain using your favorite FTP program.

        Yes, or even better use this script:
        PHP Code:
        <?php
        header
        ("Location: http://your-affiliate-website-goes-here.com");
        ?>
        Save it as index.php and upload it to the root website directory (usually public_html) as in the previous example.

        For reasons that I explained here, the PHP method is more reliable. The other method (which uses JavaScript) is likely to fail for about 5% of your visitors.

    Here's a little tip to help increase the click-thru rate from your article if you go the subdomain route:

    Set up a subdomain called "recommendedby.domain.com" ... This is what the readers of your article will see as the link destination if they look down at the status bar in the lower left of their browser while hovering over your link. You'd be surprised how many people do that as a matter of habit before they'll click a live link.

    So if your readers who do this and are naturally a bit cautious see "recommendedby.domain.com" it's kind of like a mini-review page, if you follow my meaning. Honestly, it's not gonna affect that many of your readers, but hey, every little thing you can do to creep up your CTR, all the better, right?
