So if you read the title you know what Jing is. The Camtasia substitute.

I have been trying out the free version and before I upgrade wanted to know if the Pro version allows you to capture "video" with the Jing video.

Would I be able to take Windows Movie Maker file WMV play it and capture it with Jing?

The free version does not. Nor does it work on Youtube videos.
Not that I am trying any thing funny like stealing other people's videos.
I'm trying to find ways to show in a Jing screen capture video one of my videos. Like a WMV.

Yes I went through all of the Jing FAQs, wrote them an email, so far no reply.

Just thought you guys would be faster.

Thanks

Matt

I use Jing Pro, so let me see if that's possible and I'll post the results shortly.

If you are wanting to capture video that is being played on your computer then by all means download the free plugin for firefox called
    sothink web video downloader.

    Link:

Free Download Video Downloader Tool, Fast Free Download FLV Video

It's good for flash videos. Flash videos that you can play on your computer. Easy to us for youtube even.

Not sure on the Pro version if that'd be a capability or not but this plugin may be a temporary use you could take advantage of.

Yep. I used it to capture video of one of my YouTube videos playing. I was on my headset so the voice-over on my YouTube video didn't come through, but the fix there is simple enough... just play the sound from your existing video through your computer speakers into the mic so Jing will pick up the sound as your new video records.

I hope that's what you were asking. All I did was go to YouTube.com, play one of my existing videos on the screen, and use Jing Pro to record the playing of that video. Simple enough.

    John,

    Thanks.

I'm trying to create a little inexpensive studio using my Canon Powershot digital camera, Windows Movie Maker, Audacity, and now probably Jing Pro.

Just want to experiment a little with video production before I start thinking about investing in a lot of expensive stuff when I don't even know what I'm going to need yet

    Thanks again.

The reason why you can't re-record your videos with jing is (most likely) that your video player uses a video overlay technique (I think the correct term is DirectShow Overlay).

Anyway, you can turn this off by just disabling "hardware acceleration" in your media player. For example, in the Windows media player, go to tools > performance and set "video acceleration" to "none".

Then, you should be able to re-capture your videos.

      Cheers,
      Marc
