Microphone is getting me down

Hi,
I really need your help. I tried to produce some eCourse video but I am lost. My goal is to produce less work if possible with quality. I have no problem producing slides with powerpoint, editing videos with Cantasia or screencam-o-matic. My problem is about taking sound. Great sound.

If I can produce great sound, I will build many course with one shot... Not taking time to edit the sound full of noise. I will make direct screencast.

Internal mic give me worse sound. I tried some usb cound card with no success. I tried the "Rode Videomic Shotgun Microphone with Rycote Lyre Mount (Model: VIDEOMICR)" without success, putting it directly in my PC (ASUS laptop) . You can find it here : http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CAE8PM4
I wonder : What am I doing wrong.

I even tried to take sound with my ASUS tablet as I saw people taking the sound with their iphone. The big problem was to have clear sound and to ajust the sound with the picture

Any idea to help me?

Your microphone is good (rode is a good brand). I think the problem is a) the recording software you are using or b) your rendering settings (low sound quality).

This question was asked a while ago. I can not find the thread, but a lot of people that make video suggested the blue yeti mic also available at amazon. I have not personally used it, but quite a few agreed it is one of the best

Are you certain your boom mic is plugged into the right PC jack? A popup should appear telling you that you have.

Test to make sure with Sound Recorder or Audacity or something simple before using a more complicated program.

I use a headset, and also a digital recorder that has a usb output line.

The digital recorder was about $50 and I'm sure my iphone could do pretty much the same thing except the microphone wouldn't be quite as good quality.

The headset's mic is also lower quality, but sufficient.

On your computer, in the audio settings, there will be several audio levels. One will be for the recording level. Make sure this is turned up. Beware of a hiss that can come into the recording if the volume is turned up too high, however.

I don't know why your tablet isn't recording well enough.

Remember, the name of the game in business is to SHIP, so don't be worried about getting it "perfect"...just "good enough to ship." Feeling proud of what you've accomplished but not waiting around forever to get it 'just so'.

When I record game walkthroughs, I'm recording the game with Fraps. Fraps could record the audio through my headset, but I want the better quality audio from the digital recorder. So there's the issue of lining up the audio, right?

In my case, I use a Fraps hotkey to record just the first few words of audio. Then later, when I'm assembling the video in my editor, I drop in the digital recorder's audio track and simply line up the beginning of that track with the few words recorded on the Fraps audio track.

It's easy because the waveform shapes of the words are the same on each track.

Another option you have, as long as your internal audio track is recorded separately from anything else (music, video), is to record your audio on BOTH devices.

Then line them up with one another, and finally delete the internal lower quality track.

This is all much simpler than I might be making it sound.
